Rise Against Suicide is a 501(c)(3) Colorado-based non-profit organization whose mission is to help youth at risk of suicide by removing the financial and social barriers to treatment, enabling them to find hope and healing. Rise Against Suicide funds mental health therapy sessions for uninsured or underinsured at-risk youth struggling with suicidal ideation. The Role
Under the supervision of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide overall leadership and management to support the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of Rise Against Suicide. This role serves as the central hub for both internal staff and external community engagement, leading advocacy efforts while managing the organization's operations and business affairs to ensure high-quality services and robust financial backing. The Executive Director is responsible for fostering a positive organizational culture by supporting and developing current staff while attracting new team members, ensuring their strengths and talents are fully utilized and recognizing their dedication to our mission, donors, and one another. In addition, this position will partner with the Board of Directors to develop and implement effective strategies and communication throughout the organization.
Strategy, Governance, Accountability
Work in tandem with the Board of Directors to build upon a strategic vision, supported by an annual strategic plan, while adhering to timelines and holding activity owners accountable for advancing the organization's vision, mission, and values.
Provide strong leadership and foster staff alignment with the organization's strategic goals.
Report regularly to key stakeholders, including funders, on progress and outcomes.
Programs and Advocacy
Provide leadership for all programs supporting our clients, including evaluating their effectiveness and identifying opportunities for improvement to ensure adherence to best practices and the highest standards.
Represent the organization in policy discussions and advocacy efforts both locally and regionally.
Build relationships with other like-minded organizations and initiatives focused on youth.
Maintain a client-centered, results-oriented, data-driven approach for the organization.
Ensure that established program policies and procedures are implemented and adjusted as necessary.
Organizational Leadership, Culture Cultivation, and Talent Development
Provide leadership and direction to the organization’s staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation while demonstrating a commitment to equity.
Provide responsible and focused leadership on performance at the system, process, and individual levels.
Oversee the organization's business with timely, efficient, and effective administrative support for the entire organization, including but not limited to insurance coverage, contracts, leases, and service agreements.
Provide leadership in all HR areas, including employment practice laws and regulations, performance objectives and evaluations, growth and training opportunities, and employee recruitment, retention, and satisfaction.
Balance growth with personal connection by staying engaged with staff while also understanding the needs and concerns of the community.
See the big picture and anticipate future needs while making pragmatic decisions that keep the organization agile and effective.
Development, Marketing, and Communications
Excel in building relationships with stakeholders, elected officials, foundation leadership, funders, donors, volunteers (including our Board), and our community.
Oversee and collaborate on all aspects of Rise’s development, marketing, and communications efforts, including budgeting, events, and online presence.
Initiate and collaborate on securing new grants and support renewal efforts for existing ones.
Collaborate and support all development functions for foundations, major donors, and individual donors.
Lead and effectively engage the staff and Board with the organization’s external communications for all key stakeholders, including community partners, government officials, and media.
Serve as a thought leader, collaborating across teams to shape positive messaging strategies that build our organization’s brand and presence through all aspects of marketing and PR.
Financial Performance and Reporting
Oversee and ensure accurate financial practices with timely reporting.
Work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a sensible and balanced annual budget.
Ensure that the organization receives accurate financial statements and is reviewed on time.
Ensure an accurate annual report is created and delivered.
Board Relations Management
Lead and advise the Board on strategic, financial, and organizational planning, as well as on securing funding, to ensure long-term success in fulfilling our mission.
Establish effective lines of communication with Board members, ensuring all are allowed and enabled to be strong advocates for our mission.
Attend all Board meetings to advise and provide appropriate support as needed. Meet with the Board Chair monthly and co-plan the board meetings.
Guide and collaborate with the staff and Board throughout the strategic planning process.
Knowledge of and adherence to the Board’s bylaws and policies.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or at least five years of experience in non-profit management.
Dynamic senior leadership experience in guiding, managing, and expanding a nonprofit organization or foundation, ideally within the suicide prevention sector.
Exceptional oral and written communication and public engagement skills, including adapting style and approach to diverse stakeholders and needs.
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Dedicated to active and ongoing learning, understanding one’s identity, power, and privilege, and acknowledging the intersectional identities of staff, volunteers, and the Board.
Experienced financial management of budgets and expenses, and forecasting financial performance.

Self-motivated problem solver with maturity and tact to collaborate effectively with colleagues, Board Members, external partners, and team members.

Ability to cultivate strong community partnerships.
A proven track record and passion for fundraising with a commitment to maintaining current funders, a desire for cultivating new donors, an ability to generate new revenue streams, and a history of taking organizations to the next level of sustained philanthropic support.
