For current job opportunities visit our careers page.The Team You’ll Work WithThe Office of Asylum Seeker Operations (OASO) is leading New York City’s response to, and serviceprovision for, the influx of asylum seekers. New York City’s response is unique throughout the nationand includes complex services for asylum seekers, including but not limited to legal supports, advocacy,shelter, education, workforce training, clothing and food donations, and collaboration with faith-basedand community-based organizations. OASO coordinates between agencies, makes sure that agencieshave the resources they need, and manages the City’s advocacy to the state and federal governments.OASO also leads strategic planning for the City’s response, including long-term planning and policydrafting.The Problems You’ll SolveThe Office of Asylum Seeker Operations (OASO) is recruiting for one (1) Agency Attorney II to functionas a Counsel, The Office of Asylum Seeker Operations (OASO) who will:Provide legal analysis and appropriate guidance to MoRMC staff, agency employees, and seniorCity executives in all areas of MoRMC’s portfolio, including City operations, procurement,contract management, and internal and external audits.
Evaluate standards and guidelines related to audits and assisting City agencies in theestablishment of best audit practices throughout City government.Identify trends and common concerns across City agencies that emerge from audits,investigations, other inquiries, and MoRMC’s work; and helping agencies develop appropriateresponses, including plans to implement.Communicate with executives in City agencies and the Mayor’s Office concerning significant riskareas, compliance issues, and other programmatic and legal concerns that are identified inaudits, investigations, and other inquiries.
Lead and coordinating key projects (agency, inter-agency and otherwise) that identify andassess (1) the probability and severity of risks, including compliance issues, that potentiallyaffect essential city services, operations, and assets, including those that involve multipleagencies; and (2) opportunities for improvement.
Provide briefings to the Mayor, the Chief Counsel to the Mayor and City Hall, and other seniorstaff on critical issues and recommendations.
Coordinate efforts with the Mayor’s Office of Municipal Services Assessment on specificprojects and providing related legal analysis and appropriate guidance as needed.
Provide direct support on selected engagements and overseeing special projects, as necessary.About You• 1. Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below.2. One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any statebar; or3. Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). Incumbents mustremain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of thisemployment.In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements: To be assigned toAssignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I ortwo years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas oflaw related to the assignment. To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years ofexperience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experiencesubsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
