General Summary
Western Michigan University is seeking a dynamic and innovative associate vice president for enrollment management to increase enrollment by developing, leading, and expertly executing enrollment strategies. The ideal candidate will leverage cutting-edge technology and data-driven approaches to enhance recruitment and support retention efforts.
Major Duties
Provide leadership in the areas of undergraduate recruitment and enrollment, overseeing the offices of Admissions, Registrar, Student Financial Aid, Precollege Programming, and Enrollment Management, and Information Technology and Analytics.
Provide strategic direction and leadership for enrollment management by managing and analyzing enrollment data related to recruiting and enrolling undergraduate students.
Produce and achieve enrollment projections.
Effectively collaborate with the division of Marketing and Strategic Communications on the development and execution of effective marketing strategies.
Effectively lead a team of units to design and support enrollment management programs throughout the University.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
Thorough knowledge of admissions, student financial aid, and the registrar’s office.
Five years of successful experience managing higher education enrollment including budgets.
Strong and effective working knowledge of strategic enrollment planning and tactical implementation along with insights gained from developing enrollment strategies that achieve goals.
Vision and creativity partnered with a leadership style that engenders trust, promotes shared decision making, and advances innovation.
A strong desire to achieve enrollment goals that are essential for success in the competitive landscape.
Understanding of financial aid optimization to support enrollment goals and expand access.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences including staff, faculty, students, prospective students, alumni, and others.
Ability to cultivate positive and productive collaborative relationships with diverse faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, and students.
A proven commitment to access, expanding pipelines, and developing and executing strategies to recruit students of color and students traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
Proven ability to analyze enrollment data and business intelligence to effect strategic decision making.
A commitment to staying abreast of the latest trends and best practices in enrollment management technology to implement innovative solutions to maintain a competitive edge.

Enrollment management at WMU: 17,559 students enrolled at WMU for fall 2023, of which 13,874 were undergraduate students. More than 27% of all students were from out of state. Other than Michigan, the top 10 states providing the greatest number of students were Illinois, Indiana, California, Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida, Texas, Minnesota, New York, and Colorado. International students made up 12% of the total enrollment, coming from 91 countries. The undergraduate student body consisted of 10,288 Michigan residents and 3,586 non-residents.
In the fall 2023 first-year class, 47.9% were men and 52.1% were women. The ethnic composition of the class included 7.8% Black or African American; 3% Asian American; 0.3% American Indian or Alaska Native; 9.3% Hispanic or Latino; 72.2% White; 4.8% two or more races; 1.1% where race was not indicated. 14.3% were the first in their family to attend college. 27.9% of undergraduate students were Pell Grant recipients.
The Division of Enrollment Management at WMU is comprised of five functional areas that provide an array of services and programs to manage, support, and enhance the University’s recruitment and retention goals.
