Position Title:
Application Engineer
A New Jersey-based engineering firm seeks an experienced professional to join our team as an Application Engineer focusing on the design and proposal development of industrial automation solutions. This position requires a background in factory automation and hands-on expertise in component selection and configuration for various types of machinery. Responsibilities include assessing customer requirements, interpreting drawings and specifications, and preparing detailed proposals. The role involves regular collaboration with team leads, vendors, and external partners, with occasional site visits to evaluate project needs. Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, 401(k), health insurance, and a supportive, collaborative team environment are offered.Primary Responsibilities:Work closely with management, customers, and technical teams to assess project requirements, providing insights and technical recommendations for industrial control and automation projects.Analyze customer requests, engineering diagrams, and related documents to ensure designs align with project needs and specifications.Estimate required resources, including labor, components, and logistics, to produce accurate proposals within scope and budget.Develop clear, organized proposals and costing documents for client projects.Participate in project initiation meetings to review goals and parameters with engineering and sales teams.Engage in regular engineering discussions to track project progress and upcoming tasks.Visit client sites to perform assessments and maintain expertise on emerging industry technologies through vendor training. Travel is primarily local, with occasional trade show attendance or out-of-state site visits as needed.Availability for paid overtime during peak demand periods.Aim to establish oneself as a key member of the team within the first 6-12 months, allowing senior leadership to focus on expansion and development strategies.Required Skills and Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience in the industry.Proficient in written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly.Skilled in reading and interpreting electrical diagrams, line drawings, and project requirements.Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other essential office tools.Strong organizational abilities, with effective time management to handle multiple concurrent projects.Customer-oriented with a proactive approach to requests and assignments.Valid driver's license and clean driving record.Fluent in English with the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and in person.Excellent interpersonal skills and an interest in developing presentation capabilities.Preferred Experience:3-10 years of experience in industrial automation or control systems.Experience in applications engineering within automation or technical sales is a plus.Knowledge of manufacturing environments, including process lines, mechanical systems, and industrial components.Proficiency with controls equipment from Rockwell, Siemens, or ABB.Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks; experience with machine or controls design preferred.Comfortable working with cross-functional teams and effectively communicating with colleagues across departments.This role offers an opportunity for an ambitious engineer to grow in a dynamic field with a company committed to employee development and industry leadership.
