Summary: The Senior Director of Sales will be responsible for driving the overall sales strategy and execution to achieve revenue growth and market expansion. This role requires a seasoned sales leader with a proven track record in leading high-performing teams, developing and executing strategic sales plans, and building strong relationships with key customers, distributors, and partners. The ideal candidate will possess deep food industry knowledge, exceptional leadership abilities, and the strategic acumen to drive business development initiatives, optimize sales performance, and ensure sustainable growth in a competitive market. In addition to sales, this role will have responsibility for research and development (R&D) and customer service functions of the Company and will report directly to the President.
Essential Responsibilities:
Instill a relationship-based leadership mindset throughout the entire Sales team with a passion driven leadership style involving critical thinking and strong business acumen.
Foster a center of excellence culture, and critical thinking mindset within the sales function through leading, coaching and developing high performance action-oriented teams.
Inspire, develop and empower the Sales, R&D and Customer Services team to achieve business success, leading to a high profit organization (2X top line by 2030).
Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy inclusive of a Go-To-Market sales channel strategy, aligned with the company’s goals and regulatory requirements designed to drive revenue growth and expand market share. Utilize market research, and data analytics to identify trends, adapt sales strategies and opportunities for sales optimization and channel strategy.
Build strong partnerships supported by regular business reviews with key clients, and stakeholders, acting as a point person ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty understanding their needs and providing tailored solutions. Outline key performance metrics to drive sustainable partnerships.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the alignment of sales efforts with overall business objectives.
Provide accurate sales forecasts and regular reports to senior management to effectively manage growth plans.
Lead negotiations with customer and oversee contract management processes.
Provide innovative solutions to customers by elevating the Company’s R&D expertise.
Develop processes, technologies and tools to integrate and advance our sales effectiveness and professionalism.
Evolve Sales and R&D teams’ structure to align with go forward channel strategies and provide succession plan opportunities.
Develop Sales and R&D leadership training model and curriculum, working with corporate training resources.
Advance our go-to market sales and product development strategies, inclusive of ColdQuest business capabilities.
Key Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty effectively.
A bachelor’s degree in business administration, Marketing, Sales, or a related field. A master’s degree (MBA) is preferred. Professional certifications in sales management, leadership, or related areas are a plus (e.g., Certified Sales Executive (CSE), Certified Professional Salesperson (CPSP)). Affiliations with industry related boards, associations also encouraged.
A minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in sales, with at least 5 years in an influential senior leadership role with the ability to inspire and drive a high-performance culture.
Proven ability to build high performing teams.
Excellent strategic planning, business/financial acumen, analytical and critical thinking skills to identify growth opportunities and optimize sales performance.
Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and driving growth in a competitive market.
Experience in developing and executing strategic sales plans and budgets.
Experience working with large-scale retailers and distributors in the food sector.
Previous experience in product launches and go-to-market strategies specific to food products.
Strong negotiation and relationship management skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with key clients, distributors, and partners.
Highly results-driven and self-motivated, with a passion for the food industry.
Adaptability and flexibility to navigate a rapidly changing market environment.
This position will be based out of West Michigan, however, will have the ability to travel for client meetings, conferences, and industry events.
