Research Scientist - Mouse Modeling Experience
University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, United States, 77246
The ideal candidate will have a PhD and experience working with mice
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Technical Functions
Have the ability to handle blood samples and isolate peripheral blood mononuclear cells and do in vitro drug incubations as well as prepare cells for transcriptomics, genomic, and proteomics assays. Design and conduct research experiments independently. Discusses goals of each project with supervisor; with the help of supervisor, develops a step-by-step written procedure outlining the specific actions required to conduct the experiment before proceeding. Compile research data and help PI submit results to be included in publications, grants or protocols.
Laboratory Operation
The Research Scientist will be responsible for the following laboratory operations:Processing normal and cancer tissues for transcriptomics, genomic, and proteomics analysis.Perform validation of targets by immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, RT-PCR and other techniques.Perform basic science experiments related to transgenic mouse modeling and functional and genomic analysis of transgenic mouse models of CLL and lymphoma.
Collaboration and Presentation
Trains other research personnel and students on established assays, and use of laboratory equipment. Willingness to learn and to help others in the implementation of new techniques.
Data Maintenance
Enter and maintain data from research activities in notebook/computer databases as appropriate. Performs and documents all required quality control/quality assurance. Maintains accurate, detailed records and experimental data and protocols. Prepares graphs, slides and tables via photography, computer, or manually. Acquires and maintains proficiency in computer functions. Must be able to fully communicate results and understand instructions from principal investigator and colleagues.
Transcriptomics comparison in CLL
Candidate will work with Bioinformatician to compare already available data regarding patients with CLL. Will do validation assays and compile figures to write manuscript.
Genomic analyses during therapy
Do several assays to validate genomics data available during therapy. Work with bioinformatician and prepare work for manuscript writing and submitting.
TCL1 mouse model system
Test novel agents and combination in transgenic mouse model systems. Analyze target cells as well as tissues for impact of drug. Perform experiments with these cells.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Masters degree in one of the natural sciences or related field. Four years of experience in experimental or scientific work. With PhD, no experience required. With Medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.
