Position SummaryThe Principal Data Scientist in the Data Science team will play a crucial role as an architect, leading AI explorations, research, algorithmic solution creation, and fast prototyping aimed at delivering impactful initiatives within Walmart Global Tech. This position involves developing and deploying AI/ML models that will enable business-critical platforms across the Walmart security ecosystem.
As the Principal Data Scientist, you will oversee the end-to-end implementation of Machine Learning products and collaborate with an accomplished team of Product Managers and Technologists to implement AI/ML solutions at scale. What you'll do:
Provide technical leadership to a team of Data Scientists while collaborating with engineers focused on backend software services for powering AI/ML solutions.
Partner closely with product and engineering leaders to inform, drive, and accelerate innovations in physical security and risk platforms.
Execute the full life cycle of projects, including project planning, data collection, model prototyping, and deployment, with responsibilities encompassing stakeholder management and communication to cross-functional partners.
Build MLOps and LLMOps frameworks to create, manage, and deploy data science algorithms effectively.
Lead feature engineering efforts to optimize data pipelines and model performance.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of various LLM models, their applications, and implications for business use cases.
Apply software engineering best practices, including test-driven design and development, to ensure the reliability and maintainability of ML solutions.
Foster a collaborative environment, promoting open communication and teamwork across multiple teams.
Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in AI/ML to drive continuous learning and innovation.
What you'll bring:
Experience in the development and deployment of large-scale business-critical AI/ML systems and services in public cloud environments like Azure and GCP.
5+ years of experience in applied NLP with a deep understanding of transfer learning, LLM-based models including RAG, zero/few-shot learning, and multi-modal.
Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Java, R, or Scala) and large-scale training using data structures and algorithms.
Proficiency in machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe, Scikit-Learn, or Spark MLLib.
Experience with agile methodologies, using project planning and tracking management tools (e.g., JIRA).
A natural curiosity about how things work and a passion for solving challenges at the scale of a Fortune 1 retailer.

Option 3: 7 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
