POSITION OVERVIEW:Under the direction of the Fire Captain, supervises and coordinates the activities of a fire company during an assigned shift, to include: participation in and directing personnel in rescue, fire suppression, fire prevention, station and equipment maintenance, training, and emergency medical care.The Shift Fire Lieutenant will be under the general supervision of the Shift Captain.RESPONSIBILITIES
Responds to fire and emergency alarms and in the absence of the Captain, establishes Incident Command.Supervises subordinates in extinguishing fires, rescue work and protecting property.Direct and assist crew in firefighting and related life and property protection and provide emergency medical care to include assisting EMT's.Supervises salvage, rescue, and overhaul activities to include conducting fire prevention inspections.Supervise the maintenance of the station, grounds and all assigned apparatus and equipment.Supervise fire apparatus and equipment operations and assist firefighters and EMT's when necessary.Inspect station buildings, grounds, quarters, equipment, supplies, and firefighting appliances.Train and drill station in all phases of firefighting, rescue, emergency medical care and fire prevention to include development and implementation of new programs.Prepare and maintain various fire reports, schedules and records and operate department computer.Perform various personnel functions to include maintaining files and reports.May perform duties of higher classification when assigned.Perform other related work as required.May be required to work overtime or be called back to work with short notice in the case of emergent events.Supervise the work of the firefighters; evaluate performance and make recommendations regarding disciplining employees.Conduct fire prevention programs, and educational and informational programs throughout the plant.Other duties that may be assigned by the Fire Captain and/or Fire Chief.QUALIFICATIONS
US CitizenMust be at least 18 years old to applyGED or High School DiplomaValid drivers' licenseAbility to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screeningAt least two (2) years' experience as a full-time career Firefighter with the RFAAP Fire/Rescue Department.Firefighter IIHaz-Mat Awareness & OperationsFire Officer IFire Instructor IFire Inspector IEMT-BasicEVOC Class IIIBasic Pump Operations or Driver/Operator-EngineWORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to work during inclement weather.Heavy work: Exerting up to 200 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Must have visual and audio acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment, machines such as fire equipment and apparatuses.May be subject to outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures and weather.Subject to high noise levels.Subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.May be required to be fitted for and/or wear a respirator.Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, often without breaks, and may be required to climb stairs or ladders and walk up inclines and on uneven terrain.Must meet all physical and psychological standards as required by the contract.Travel may be required.Must be able to perform all tasks of a Firefighter/EMS professional.Must be able to perform tasks while wearing an SCBA and full firefighting PPE.Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday.
