Work also involves stocking and distributing firefighting and emergency medical supplies and equipment and performing standby duties for high hazard activities.Work may involve strenuous physical activity and exposure to extreme heat, smoke, falling materials, toxic chemicals, and other hazardous conditions. Out-of-state fire certification must be recognized by the PRO Board, and EMS certifications must be recognized by the Virginia Department of Health, Office of EMS.Must possess a valid driver’s license and must be maintained during appointment to positionFirefighter Professional Level I & II (NFPA 1001)Three (3) years of experience in Emergency ServicesDesired Qualifications

Five (5) years of experience as an active member of an organized Fire/EMS department (including Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service)Certifications in the following areas:Regional Fire AcademyEmergency Vehicle Operations Course, S-3 (NFPA 1002)Driver Pump Operator (DPO)Driver Aerial Operator (DAO)Fire Instructor IFire Officer IFire Inspector IVehicle Rescue Level 1 / OperationsHTR Rope Rescue 1 / Operations Phase 2HTR Confined Space Rescue II / TechnicianHazardous Materials Technician (NFPA 472)Airport Rescue Firefighter (NFPA 1003-15)FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800, 300, 400Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate or ParamedicExperience in developing and maintaining skills in fire procedures, HAZMAT, & emergency medical aidWorking knowledge of firefighting, hazardous material spills containment, and rescue and emergency medical care practices techniques and methodsWorking knowledge of fire, rescue, and emergency medical service apparatus and equipment and ability to make minor equipment repairs and adjustments to such equipmentWorking knowledge of topography of area, street and hydrant locations, response routes, location of police, fire, rescue and other emergency services of adjacent jurisdictions, and other information necessary for the effective and efficient dispatch of fire, rescue, and emergency medical servicesWorking knowledge of safety procedures associated with the operation of fire apparatus and aircraft-crash and rescue vehiclesWorking knowledge of building constructionWorking knowledge of mechanics and hydraulicsExperience driving Fire Department and/or EMS vehicles and operating associated firefighter equipmentConsiderable skill in developing and presenting student training in firefighting and rescue and emergency care practices, methods, and techniques
