Job Description:This position functions under the administrative direction of the Chief of Police. It is responsible for the internal day-to-day management of the Division of Police including the planning, assigning and coordinating of all police-related activities for both sworn and non-sworn personnel. Assists the Chief of Police with strategic planning, establishing division goals and initiatives and overseeing the performance management process for the Division of Police. Develops, directs and evaluates Division of Police services and programs. Provides a wide range of administrative duties such as payroll, grievance processing and direct supervision of Division of Police personnel and teams.Serves as chair or team member on various division and university committees and workgroups. Collaborates with University leadership and external customers to promote and provide and maintain public order and safety. Oversees and coordinates major event planning and Homeland Security initiatives. Meets with and communicates with community leaders and members regarding complaints and concerns over police actions. Handles media inquiries. Assists in the hiring and training processes of division personnel. Assists in the development and implementation of division general orders. Provides leadership for special projects as assigned by the Chief of Police and/or Assistant Vice President and Director of Public Safety. Assumes control of the Division of Police in the absence of the Chief of Police.Minimum Education Required:

Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in political science or criminal justice.Required Qualifications:Current peace officer certification required with the ability to obtain Ohio Peace Officer certification within 12 months of hire.Bachelors degree in criminal justice, political science, public administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.Minimum 9 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, including direct supervision experience is required.Demonstrated initiative by taking advantage of educational opportunities such as the FBI National Academy, PELC, CLEE, SPI, required.Masters degree desired.Knowledge of University policies and procedures strongly desired.Strategic or long-range planning experience desired.Extensive knowledge of Ohio criminal law desired.Extensive experience with the principles of modern crime prevention, knowledge of criminal investigative techniques and rules of evidence required.No conviction record for felony or crime of moral turpitude or domestic violence.Valid drivers license required.Unusual Working Conditions:Subject to 24-hour call in. May work evenings and weekends. Required to work all home football games. This position is identified as an 'Essential' position, whose presence is required regardless of the existence of an emergency condition, and whose absence from duty could endanger the safety and well-being of the campus population and/or physical plant.Business Title:
