POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Engineer is responsible for a defined portion of a project and is accountable for establishing effective working relationships with clients and managing the flow of routine information and documents to the entire project team.

The Project Engineer maintains up-to-date, accurate documents for the project including drawings, master schedule, as-builts, submittals, logs, test results, etc.

The Project Engineer works closely with the Superintendent to plan and coordinate upcoming work and obtains, tracks and expedites the delivery of equipment and materials to the site.

The Project Engineer also assists the Project Manager in monitoring the status of the project and identifying efforts to more effectively manage the project.

The Project Engineer is an entry level project management position.

It is expected that the incumbent will demonstrate a level of proficiency in the following core competency areas necessary to manage projects of minor scope.

Minor scope projects are generally defined as a project assignment or group of projects responsibilities up to $7,000,000 in annual construction cost; or projects with $1M per month billing for at least 7 consecutive months; or project assignments with over 150,000 manhours or 15,000 manhours per month for at least 10 consecutive months.

Budget/Schedule/Cost Control

Develops, maintains, updates, distributes and manages estimates.

Develops and documents cost estimates to complete change orders as assigned by the Project Manager.

Recognizes and manages critical paths within the project schedule.

Maintains the master schedule, updating as changes are made in the project.

Counts and verifies quantities constructed for the weekly labor report.

Assembles delivery tickets and other documentation used to support invoice to the client.

Submits information to Billing Dept.

Reviews project cost reports.

Identifies trends and provides ideas for managing costs to the Project Manager.

Management Competencies

Effectively maintains and manages RFI process, daily reports, drawings and submittal logs.

Obtains and verifies all shop drawings as assigned.

Prepares and submits product data of materials and/or equipment used (i.e., submittals) to the client/client's agent for approval.

Maintains an up-to-date and accurate set of documents that records the project as it was constructed (i.e., as-builts).

Submits the as-builts to the client/client's agent upon completion of the project.

Maintains proper safety records.

Coordinates support functions, including project start-up, with internal and external team members.

As assigned by the Project Manager, keeps a daily log of key activities and decisions for the project.

Effectively manages the change order and billings process and directs meetings.

Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with subcontractors.

Assists in orienting subcontractors to the project.

In conjunction with the Project Manager, evaluates the performance of the subcontractors at the conclusion of the project.

Creates and engages in relationships with key union contacts.

Understands and assists in application of buy-out procedures.

Engineering Competencies

Understands Alberici's quality guidelines, Ensures compliance to all applicable and quality-controlled codes/standards, and helps with quality management (QA/QC).

Understands and assists with surveying on the project site.

Helps to produce or procure drawings (CAD) as needed; including crane layouts, as-builts, critical lift points, etc.

Assists in commissioning & start-up.

Construction Means and Methods

Ability to stage, prepare, phase and sequence site logistics within budget and schedule; assesses constructability.

Conducts a visual inspection of the project on a regular basis, looking for deviations from accepted construction practices and for aspects of the project that will not be satisfactory to the client.

Coordinates inspections with local regulatory bodies.

Accompanies inspectors as required and maintains records of inspections.

Reviews the results of the inspection and keeps the Project Manager apprised of the results.

Verifies and tracks quantities of key materials (loads of sand, yards of concrete) used in the construction of the project.

Manages the punch list process.

End User Interaction.

Establishes rapport and bonds with the project team including architects, engineers, owner and department managers.

Establishes effective working relationships with the client, client's agents and/or client's employees who may be on site.

Provides information to the client, client's agents and/or client's employees so that the client will have a positive construction experience with the Company.

Monitors adherence to the contract along with the Project Manager.

Informs the Project Manager of potential deviations from the contract.

Performance

Thorough knowledge of SafeRing policies and practices.

Knows, practices and enforces the Company safety policies and procedures.

Models and reinforces safety as the top priority on the project site.

Continually demonstrates safety policies by wearing appropriate PPE in the field.

Contributes to building a safe project site.

Obtains safety equipment needed by personnel on the project site.

Conducts safety inspections of the project site.

Points out potentially unsafe conditions to the Superintendent and/or subcontractor.

Identifies patterns of unsafe conditions and informs the Project Manager.

Completes accident investigations and reports, as directed by the Project Manager.

Documents safety violations.

Conducts a weekly review of the Labor Productivity Report.

Plans and reviews cost-effectiveness of materials purchased by Superintendent, monthly.

Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Project Manager/Project Manager, serves as the acting Assistant Project Manager/Project Manager in his/her absence.

Travel to Company and subsidiary offices; offsite client, subcontractor, and supplier meetings; and other locations across North America to fulfill the essential duties of the role as required.

Regular and reliable attendance in person as required.

Management Responsibilities

May manage and direct non-supervisory administrative employees at a project site.

Education and Experience

Applicants must maintain collegiate status for the duration of the internship with a focus in Civil, Construction Management, Industrial, Mechanical, or related engineering field.

Individual assignments will vary based on project scope, phase, and job requirements.
