Overview

The System Director of Biomedical / Clinical Engineering Is the primary administrative contact for system executive leadership on biomedical / clinical engineering technology issues. They direct activities and lead the Clinical Engineering program in the selection, procurement, and delivery of biomedical equipment and services. Ensure all program elements are designed and implemented to comply with Joint Commission and other regulatory and inspection agency requirements, guidelines, and standards. Develops and implements strategies in line with the Dartmouth Health's Strategic Plan. Develops annual goals and objectives related to supporting the Systems growth and development of clinical engineering in response to present and future needs. Develops and manages annual operating budget and provide leadership and collaboration with the Environment of Care Committees, and systems operational departments. Develop and implement processes and improvements for Biomedical Engineering to meet Cybersecurity requirements.

Responsibilities

Provides clinical engineering leadership and guidance for the following:to comply with the Joint Commission medical equipment management standards.to offer initial inspections and acceptance testing for acquisition of biomedical equipment.to participate in the investigation and reporting of medical device related incidents.to combat cyber-security threats in biomedical equipment/networks.to integrate biomedical equipment with the electronic medical record.to participate in the medical device hazard and recall notification program.to review the maintenance capital submittals for biomedical equipment at all sites as requested.to manage medical equipment planning for construction projects involving biomedical equipment at all sites as requested.to conduct pre-purchase evaluations, research vendors, assess cost of ownership, and other activities in support of biomedical equipment acquisitions.Coaches, mentors and develops staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.Measure and report on System Metrics for the Clinical Engineering program including but not limited to Preventative Maintenance performance, work volumes and productivity.Integrate management of biomedical equipment maintenance at all system sites.Develop and implement consistent policies and procedures that guide and support functions of the Clinical Engineering program.Develop and meet goals with respect to biomedical technology in support of system strategic plan.Communicate with key clinical customers through participation on system committees.Participates in Risk Management and Patient Safety in Medical Equipment hazard recalls, incident investigations and medical device reporting.Provides equipment consultation services to purchasing departments including pre-purchase equipment evaluation.Identifies strategic opportunities and plans in support of the organizational mission, vision, values and long-range objectives.Review and rank all strategic capital requests for biomedical equipment; assess and prioritize all strategic capital requests.Optimize capital purchasing power by identifying opportunities to consolidate across sites and fiscal years.Negotiate system-wide service agreements with vendors where appropriate.Performs other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications

Master's Degree in in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Healthcare administration or related field, or MBA or Graduate Degree in a health science discipline preferred.Must have exceptional communication and presentation skills.Must possess the ability to interact with all levels of management and staff.Required Licensure/Certifications
