Job Title: Phlebotomist I
Job Description
Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperatures.Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states).Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.0-2 years of experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsProficiency in using straight needles and butterfly needles.Ability to update and handle patient information accurately.Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations.Work Environment
The position is located at an outpatient clinic in Ascension Bartlesville. The work schedule is from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.About Actalent
