Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will assist with various duties, including performing blood draws, specimen labeling, and troubleshooting, while ensuring efficient workflow. Your ability to accurately collect and store specimens in a fast-paced environment is essential to providing high-quality care.
Principal Job Duties:Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and ensure accurate record-keeping.Collect and store specimens (e.g., blood, urine, fecal) according to established procedures.Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods to patients.Demonstrate proficiency with straight needles and butterfly needles.Fully understand and execute physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Cross-check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.Package and store specimens according to required temperature and protocol to maintain sample integrity.Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations regarding safety and specimen handling.Attend annual departmental trainings.Answer phone inquiries and provide laboratory results when appropriate.Maintain equipment by performing routine inspections, testing, cleaning, and decontamination.Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Phlebotomy Certification for the state of employment (required in some states).Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.High School Diploma or GED required.2-4 years of experience in a clinical or laboratory setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Skills & Competencies:
Excellent venipuncture technique with straight and butterfly needles.Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen collection and labeling.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining patient care standards.Effective communication skills, both with patients and the healthcare team.Knowledge of laboratory protocols and regulatory compliance.
