Who we are looking for:
We are currently looking for a Plant Controller to be based out of Phoenix, AZ. The position works closely with the Plant Manager and reports to the VP Finance - S&I. The Phoenix Controller is responsible for the planning, forecasting, analysis, management reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls and compliance. In addition, the Controller serves as the business partner to the Plant Manager, providing support on all matters relating to the performance, capital and other resource allocation decision analysis, and financial processes.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment including experience managing a team of 2-3 . Experience with a business system-based company is preferred.
What you will do:
Develop implement and maintain systems and processes for preparation of operating budgets, financial forecasts and capital budgets for the plant, report results and advise management accordingly.
Lead and develop team
Ensure that appropriate accounting and Atkore financial practices are followed.
Maintain general ledger and related general accounting processes in accordance with GAAP.
Manage month, quarter and year end closing activities - preparing and posting journal entries, reviewing manufacturing expenses, completing account reconciliations.
Satisfy Atkore reporting requirements and provide management with the reliable information necessary to control operations.
Analyze and accurately report current month's financial results and report variances against budget and expectations. Recommend corrective actions as indicated by performance to meet P&L and working capital targets.
Ensure bill of material and costing accurately reflect production operations.
Monitor working capital components, devise concepts and work with the location management team to minimize the use of working capital and other assets within the business.
Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate book to physical adjustments made during cycle and annual inventory counts.
Coordinate and direct the preparation for yearly budget and forecasts.
Team with plant controller colleagues to drive standard work across plants and document standard work.
Work as a member of the team with other Atkore finance leaders and support global finance initiatives.
Demonstrate and promote our key Atkore values of Integrity, Respect, Excellence, Teamwork and Accountability through actions and decisions.
Other related duties as assigned.
What you will bring:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. CMA designation is a plus.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment including experience managing 2-3 accounting support staff. Solid understanding of US GAAP required.
Experience with Lean Manufacturing and a business system-based company is preferred.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
Action oriented - enjoys working towards goals/deadlines.
Customer focus - dedicated to meeting the expectation and requirements of internal and external customers.
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
Interpersonal skills allowing for a challenging and constructive engagement with all management levels of the organization.
Proficient knowledge of MS Office with expert level Excel skills
Experience with JD Edwards or other ERP is a plus.
Within 3 months, you will:
Complete your Atkore Immersion program.
Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
Gain an understanding of the business and team you work with and support the processes and procedures your team owns.
Within 6 months you will:
Ensure appropriate accounting and Atkore financial practices are followed.
Maintain general ledger and related general accounting processes.
Provide analytical accounting and reporting support at plant level.
Manage the process and prepare the monthly forecast, including consolidation and analysis of inputs from the sales, manufacturing, and support functions.
Within 12 months, you'll:
Be managing an efficient team that delivers Atkore's strategy.
Provide sound financial analysis, financial planning tools and economic decision-making support to the Operations Controller, Plant Manager, and their management teams. Key areas of focus include pricing, revenue and gross margin, administrative expenses, operating performance, working capital and other key performance indicators (KPI's).
