The Position
The purpose of this classification is to supervise the work activities and personnel of a crew engaged in the construction, maintenance, repair, and upkeep for city streets, sewer and storm water drainage systems, parks, and other public infrastructure. The duties and responsibilities of this classification are very similar to the Crew Supervisor class, however it is distinguished in that the incumbent is assigned the most difficult and complex projects, with an emphasis on high priority construction projects. Senior Crew Supervisors will oversee all activities and crew members on site when multiple crews are assigned to the same project.Duties
Supervises subordinates of assigned crew: directs work and allocates personnel; acts on employee problems, counseling or disciplining as appropriate; trains less experienced operators and crew workers; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and compiles and reviews timesheets.Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work of crew: plans, prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management and completes required paperwork; and obtain required permits.
Maintains a safe work zone that is free from hazards: monitors work environment and activities to enforce compliance with established safety procedures: inspects property, facilities, and equipment for safety and proper operation; distributes and utilizes precautionary safety equipment; oversees the setup of a safe work zones; and flags and directs traffic around work sites.Coordinates availability of equipment, materials, tools and supplies needed for projects; maintains inventory of department supplies and equipment; initiates orders for new or replacement materials; provides budgetary input.

Oversees and performs various manual work functions associated with construction, maintenance and repair projects, which may include repairing roads/asphalt, compacting road surfaces, installing/repairing pipe, constructing/repairing ditches, repairing/replacing drainage culverts, repairing potholes, constructing sidewalks, cutting pipes, installing fences, installing/repairing irrigation systems, mowing right-of-ways, cutting trees and brush, assembling facility equipment and structures, digging holes or trenches, shoveling materials, lifting/moving heavy materials, flagging traffic, and picking up debris/litter.
Plans and implements maintenance activities to upkeep and maintain parks, landscape and sports fields; troubleshoots maintenance problems at parks; assists in performing maintenance task as needed; assists in maintaining landscape throughout parks; assists in maintaining playing fields in parks.
Supervises the setting up special events/activities; assists with traffic control and litter pickup; assists departments with moving heavy furniture, files, or other heavy materials.
Responds to and supervises response for emergency calls during inclement weather, or other emergency situations.
Receives, prepares or completes various forms and documentation, including work orders, time cards, maintenance reports, spray records, diagrams, maps, manuals, reference materials, and other documents; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; communicates with citizens and the general public regarding road projects and activities; communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.
Operates related equipment including a motor grader, backhoe, dump truck, roller, crack sealer, pick-up truck, loader, dozer and other equipment to complete essential functions; inspects and monitors equipment operation to ensure safety in operation.Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.

High school diploma or equivalent required with a minimum of two years experience as a supervisor over construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sewer and drainage systems, parks facilities, or other public infrastructure; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class A commercial driver's license and Flagging Certification.Core Competencies & ADA Compliance
