Position Summary
The Learning and Development Specialist designs, develops, and implements online and in-person training to enhance employee performance, knowledge, and skills across the organization. This position involves leveraging e-learning tools to create and deliver engaging in-person and online training with a research-driven focus on leadership, compliance, and departmental cross-training. The specialist tracks completion of training, analyzes training effectiveness, and assesses learning needs to provide actionable, data-driven insights and recommendations to administration.
This position reports to the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Coordinator/Instructional Designer.Essential Functions
Training Program Development : Design and develop training programs, courses, and materials that align with organizational goals and meet the needs of employees at various levels.Needs Assessment : Conduct training needs assessments through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and consultation with managers and employees to identify learning gaps and opportunities.Instructional Design : Create engaging, effective learning experiences using various methods, including e-learning, classroom training, webinars, and workshops.Facilitation : Lead and facilitate training sessions, workshops, and seminars, ensuring that content is delivered in an interactive and engaging manner.Evaluation and Improvement : Assess the effectiveness of training programs by analyzing feedback, performance data, and outcomes, and make continuous improvements to training content and delivery methods.Learning Management System (LMS) Administration : Manage and maintain the organization's LMS, including course uploads, tracking completion, and generating reports.Collaboration : Work closely with HR, department heads, and subject matter experts to ensure training content is relevant, accurate, and aligned with business needs.Employee Development : Support employee development initiatives, including leadership development, mentoring programs, and career pathing.Compliance Training : Ensure that all compliance training requirements are met and maintained, including mandatory certifications and safety training.Budget Management : Assist in managing the budget for learning and development programs, ensuring cost-effective delivery of training initiatives.Other duties as assigned.Requirements
Qualifications:
Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design models.Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools and Learning Management Systems (LMS).Excellent communication and presentation skills.Ability to assess training needs and translate them into effective learning solutions.Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.Ability to analyze data and metrics to evaluate training effectiveness.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in human resources, Organizational Development, Education, or a related field. Demonstrable experience/work history may be substituted for education credentials.Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in training, teaching, learning and development, instructional design, or a related role.Certification in instructional design, training, or related fields (e.g., CPLP, ATD) is a plus.Must have the following demonstrated abilities:Maintain strict confidentiality and professional discretion regarding sensitive and proprietary information.Present a professional appearance and demeanor.Ability to develop effective, collaborative relationships with staff, visitors, and vendors.Follow written and verbal instructions.Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking to problem-solving.Ability to organize resources and establish priorities.Ability to work under pressure with high expectations and deadlines.Stay focused despite interruptions.Work well in a team environment as well as independently.Physical Requirements:
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending;carryinglightitems;drivinganautomobile,etc.Specialphysicaldemandsarenotrequiredtoperformthe work.Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
