Description
The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 13 correctionalfacilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of theCommonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out themandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquireskills, which facilitate non-criminal behavior.
The Correctional Farm manager serves as the manager of all farm operations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of employees and in order to care for the cattle,roadway and landscaping of the farm areas as well as work to have a productive garden, row crop and hay season.Investigates claims of needed maintenance then submits work orders for such. Tracks progression of workorders with subordinate employee(s).Ensures employees and inmates are properly using all equipment to ensure employee/inmate safety as wellas improve production.Prepares and maintains farm production reports, inventory records, & ACA documentation.Prepares monthly farm report to include cattle numbers, crop and hay harvested as well as a monthlyassessment for chemical needs.Assigns acreage to be used for crops, gardens, pasture and livestock programs.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Five years of agricultural or landscaping/grounds keeping experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree in agriculture or a related field will substitute for the required education and four years of the required five years of experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
May risk injuries associated with working with animals and with farm machinery and tools. Work is performed in all types of weather conditions.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
