The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, maintaining, and updating network architecture and diagrams, managing administration and performance monitoring, ensuring system reliability and availability, conducting maintenance and upgrades, and configuring and installing network devices such as routers, switches, and wireless systems. Additionally, the role encompasses responsibilities for managing data center infrastructure and supporting virtualized environments. Work is performed under limited supervision.
The hiring salary for this position is from $93,184.00 to $128,128.00 based on experience. The full salary range for this position is from $93,184.00 to $163,072.00 to provide opportunity for growth and development.Key Responsibilities:
Provides complex technical troubleshooting and support for network systems, data center infrastructure, and virtualized network services.Installs, configures, and maintains various network devices such as routers, switches, wireless systems, and other network appliances throughout the County’s facilities.Monitors LAN/WAN performance to ensure availability and reliability, recommending and implementing adjustments across both physical and virtualized network layers as needed.Evaluates and recommends new and innovative technology solutions, with a focus on improving efficiency in both network and data center operations.Performs network architect tasks related to planning, design, additions, and upgrades to the network, including LAN, WAN, VoIP, Internet, Wireless, and data networks, as well as overseeing virtualized network resources.Performs and maintains backups of all network equipment configurations, including virtualized systems and data center hardware.Responsible for creating and maintaining existing and future network infrastructure diagrams, including documentation of virtualized assets and data center topology.Ensures that the network infrastructure, including data center and virtual network environments, adheres to information systems and security policies and directives.Performs preventative hardware and software maintenance, bug fixes, and patches, and oversees firmware upgrades for both physical and virtualized network services.Participates in 24x7 on-call rotations.Performs related tasks as required.Minimum Qualifications:
Proven hands-on network engineering experience;Thorough knowledge of Cisco switches, routers, and firewalls;Deep understanding of networking protocols and network systems infrastructure;Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools;Thorough knowledge of computer security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques;Efficient in managing and prioritizing multiple projects to meet deadlines;Ability to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot networks in both a LAN/WAN environment, and/or related hardware and software;Ability to communicate effectively and professionally;Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, superiors, and other departments;Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.Education and Certification:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in network engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or related field; or any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of combined network administration and/or network engineering experience. Previous hands-on technical experience working as a Network Analyst or in an Engineer role is preferred.CCNA or CCNP certification is required.
