Species harvested and processed by Trident include virtually every commercial species of salmon, whitefish, and crab harvested in the North Pacific and Alaska.Essential functions (responsibilities, tasks, supervisory needs)Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.Directs and oversees the functionality and safety of the vessel’s engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration and sanitary systems in accordance with Trident policy as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations.Oversees and establishes the performance and operation standards for all vessel systems. Resolves problems using solutions that involve appropriate techniques, technologies, or concepts.Directs and oversees required documentation for energy management, conservation, and preventative maintenance programs.Oversees the design and implementation of training to ensure that all vessel engineering staff are properly trained, qualified and in compliance with regulatory training and/or regulatory certification requirements.Provides direction and acts as example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.Analyzes and maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations and develops recommendations accordingly.Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)Current U.S.C.G./MMC Assistant Engineer License of Uninspected Fishing Vessel – Unlimited HP4 years of Engineering experience or 4 years at a Maritime Academy as equivalentPreferred Requirements:Advanced firefighting skillsCurrent First Aid and CPR cards1 year as an Oiler/WiperSTCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers)Preferred education and experienceFamiliarity with all relevant state and federal requirements/regulationsFamiliarity with pollution abatement proceduresFamiliarity with production needs and willingness to work with vessel manager to support production.Work environment (includes travel/on-call):While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.Must be capable of boarding and departing (exiting) a vessel without assistance by moving up or climbing a gangplank, the stern ramp of a vessel and/or a vertical ladder. Must be capable of boarding/departing the vessel by being lifted in a crane or manlift. May also enter and exit a skiff from a dock, plane, or a boat unassisted. Must meet at designated locations to receive instructions and place on a life jacket and an immersion suit without assistance in one minute or less. Must also move quickly without assistance to any designated lifeboat station.Mental Activities:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training and supervision skills.
