3900Job SummaryBethel University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Education Department that includes undergraduate teaching, academic advising, and institutional service.ResponsibilitiesTeach the equivalent of a full-time load per academic year with a primary teaching focus on elementary literacy education.Contribute to an academic environment that actively seeks to increase inclusive excellence in the department, across the university, and within the discipline.Engage in additional faculty responsibilities, including advising undergraduates, participating in university committee work, and contributing to departmental programming and new initiatives.Develop and/or maintain an active scholarly agenda, whether through consulting, applied research, or traditional academic research, ensuring contributions are disseminated to the broader disciplinary community.Actively support the University's commitment to liberal arts education and its Christian values. This includes mentoring students in their spiritual growth and helping them make meaningful connections between their academic discipline and their Christian faith.SkillsStrong teaching skills with the ability to make complex concepts accessible to students from a variety of academic backgrounds.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, think creatively, and communicate clearly and effectively across disciplinary areas.Effective interpersonal skills within diverse settings.Ability to reflect on and/or demonstrate the relationship between Christian faith and the academic discipline.ExperienceRequired:Elementary teaching license, experience in foundational reading or reading acquisition, including teaching literacy (reading, writing, and speaking) and language development.Experience and training in the Science of Reading and familiarity with the MN READ Act or similar legislation. Examples could include some or all of the following: LETRS training (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling), OL&LA from Core Reading, CERI (Center for Effective Reading Instruction) Certification.Experience in developing literacy curriculum, analysis of assessment data, and reading diagnosis, remediation, and interventions.Evidence of emerging scholarly work, commensurate with experience, in the field of language or cognitive development, literacy education, or a related field. This could include publications, research, professional grant work, professional consulting, presentations and training, or higher education faculty work.Working knowledge of the English Language Arts K-5 (required) and K-12 (preferred) Common Core Standards.Preferred Qualifications:Secondary (MS and/or HS) teaching license and teaching experience.Familiarity with Minnesota's Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board requirements for effective practice standards and subject matter standards for elementary teachers and literacy across the content areas, or comparable experience in another state setting.Experience in higher education or P-12 partnerships with an institution of higher education.Reading Endorsement, Reading Leader Endorsement, and/or similar endorsement.EducationDoctorate in Literacy Education or a related field strongly preferred; doctorate in progress will be considered. MA in education related field and at least 18 graduate credits in literacy education related courses required. Candidate must be a licensed elementary teacher.
