Position Title:
Senior Research Scientist Required Qualifications:
(as evidenced by an attached resume) Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Neuroscience or a closely related field. A minimum of five years of postdoctoral research experience in studying rodent systems neuroscience, including at least three years of research experience following the attainment of a doctoral degree. Skills required include stereotaxic injection and general animal surgeries, histology (including perfusion, sectioning, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and imaging), in vivo calcium imaging, behavior experiments and analyses, and mouse colony maintenance. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in tissue collection for single cell/nucleus RNA sequencing, as well as basic molecular biology. Previous experience in mentoring students. Primary Purpose: Stony Brook University has a Research Scientist position in the Department of Neurobiology & Behavior. The incumbent will develop, design, and run research experiments and ensure that all research protocols follow the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The Research Scientist will be responsible for the operations of the lab. Conduct independent research or teach methods to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying the motor and autonomic control of orofacial behaviors. This will involve viral tracing, manipulation of neural circuits, behavioral experiments, and neural activity recordings. Analyze and quantify histology, behavior, and neural recording data. Lab management, including oversight/supervision of Undergraduate and/or Graduate students and Research Technicians, or provide training in various research methods. Maintenance of lab including equipment maintenance, mouse care, and ordering of needed supplies. Prepare manuscripts for publications in peer-reviewed and/or scientific journals. Other duties as assigned. Special Notes: The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. This is an FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
