The YWCA of Western MA is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering survivors. The YW provides a safe place for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Our programs and services include crisis shelter and transitional housing for survivors and their families, counseling, SAFEPLAN court advocacy, community education, supervised visitation, and vocational training for youth. The YWCA provides services at multiple locations.

Summary

Reporting to the CFO, the Accountant is responsible to safeguard the assets of the YWCA in accordance with established policies and procedures for the posting and maintenance of all data in the financial accounting system.

As part of a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for the company's finances, this position maintains subsidiary schedules and assists with year-end audit, program budgets and audits, financial and ad hoc reporting in accordance with GAAP. Works collaboratively throughout the organization with a special emphasis on grant budget preparation and financial reporting.

Under supervision of Staff Accountant performs accounting system data entry to insure all business transactions are recorded timely and accurately.Handles sensitive or confidential information with honesty and integrity.Update accounts receivable, issue invoices, generate reports and perform reconciliations.Cash management responsibilities include: compile checks received for e-deposit, post cash receipts timely, and update accounts receivable.Update accounts payable, print checks, generate reports and perform reconciliations.Liaise with the property manager regarding monthly rent payments and security deposits / refunds.Prepare and post rental property entries in a timely and accurate manner.Keeps informed of accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.Assist with other accounting projects as assigned.Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required or an A.A.S. in Accounting with at least five years' experience.Knowledge and understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practicesAbility to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing required.Must have the ability to work independently and within a team atmosphere.Proficiency with computers and spreadsheets, word processing, and accounting programs required.Access to reliable transportation and valid driver's license required, and,Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
