Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct medical services to individual clients seen in Adult Health, which may include Family Planning, Communicable Disease, and the Breast and Cervical Program. This is a part time position. Days and hours may vary based on clinic needs.Essential Functions
85% Family PlanningCompletes family and patient medical history, performs Physical Assessment. Provides counseling regarding birth control options, infertility, STD, HIV Prevention, Immunization, Diabetes, weight control, Cholesterol, mammography, abnormal Lab tests, and abnormal pap smears. Prescribes oral contraceptives, diagnosis and treatment of minor problems according to Standing Orders and Physician Approved Protocols. Teach patients to insert diaphragm, and order routine and specialized Lab tests. Provide education/counseling about ParaGard T380A Intrauterine Device and Mirena Intrauterine System with insertion/removal, as requested by client, and when appropriate to do according to manufacturer instructions and Physician Approval Protocols. Review Lab test results and X-ray reports. Refer clients for specialized medical care to the Department of Social Services and other community agencies as indicated. Consult with back-up physician on a regular basis and PRN regarding clients. Provide consultation and assistance to PHN's in the clinic regarding patient problems/needs. Dispense medications and administer Immunizations, complete medical records. Colposcopy / cervical biopsy recommendations and referrals for the management of women with cervical cytological abnormalities.
10% Communicable DiseaseCompletes family and patient medical history, performs Physical Assessment. Provides counseling regarding birth control options, STD & HIV prevention, Immunizations and abnormal Lab tests. Performs diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of sexually transmitted diseases and other problems according to Standing Order and Physician Approved Protocols. Provides consultation to PHN's regarding patient problems/needs; refer patients for more specialized medical care and to various other community agencies as indicated. Confer with medical consultant on a regular basis and as the need arises, dispense medications, administer immunizations, complete medical records.
5% Additional SupportComplete required training to maintain licensure.Maintain CPR certificate.In the event of a disaster, will function as a health professional in a Red Cross Shelter.Preceptor/Coordinator for the clinical practicum of nurse practitioner students; share in the clinical education of students through mentoring; evidence based clinical management and professional role acquisition.Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or management.
Minimum Education and Experience
Licensed as Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse Midwife by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board and two years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Public Health experience preferred.
