The purpose of a Chief Operation Officer
Oversees the administrative and operating functions within a nonprofit. The COO focuses on short-term needs and long-term objectives and prioritizes and manages the work across the organization. Introducing and implementing new policies and practices to improve culture and efficiency within operational departments. These policies and objectives support programs and the long-term viability of the nonprofit. Walks alongside the program VPs supporting on new programs, work process, and operational support.
Job Description
The Chief Operations Officer is responsible for implementing and overseeing the day-to-day operations, processes, and business strategies of the organization towards the overall mission and vision of Lakemary Center. This role is responsible for all aspects of the operations running smoothly and addressing any issues that come up that impact the operations and/or financial sustainability of the organization.
The COO role is a key member of the Executive Team and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The COO maintains control of diverse business operations for the whole organization. The candidate must have a strong business and financial acumen, excellent people skills, exemplary work ethic, and the ability to problem solve. The goal of this role is to secure the functionality of business to drive extensive and sustainable growth.
Responsibilities:
Design and implement business strategies, plans, and procedures.
Monthly Board Communications
Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth.
Oversee daily operations of the organization including:
IT/Technology
Risk Management
Marketing
Development
Facilities
Transportation
Strategic Planning
Explorers Teams New Business Development
Lead departments to encourage maximum performance and dedication to the organization.
Evaluate performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics.
Write and submit weekly reports to the CEO and Executive Team in all matters of importance to the operations of the organization.
Manage relationships with outside vendors and provide contract expertise on new vendor relations in partnership with Chief Financial Officer.
Look for efficiencies across the organization that can lead to financial sustainability in cost centers.
Develop mid-manager development training on organizational effectiveness, strategic planning objectives, budget planning, and leadership growth.
Partner with Executive Team to develop cost reductions and efficiencies within the department. Partner with Executive Team and CFO during the budget process to establish key priorities and funding support.
Requirements and Skills:
Leadership, communication, analytical thinking, and strategy.
Strong business and program management expertise. Proven experience leading a large organization.
Experience working with each department within the organization providing an overall understanding of systems and processes.
Understanding of business functions such as Human Resources, Finance, and Programs.
Demonstrable expertise in strategic planning and business development.
Expertise in fundraising.
Working knowledge of data analysis and performance and operation metrics.
Working knowledge of IT and business infrastructure.
Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities at all levels of the organization.
Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills.
Strong aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving.

Day hours: Monday- Friday (flexibility as needed)
