SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for direct interaction with company producers and the verification of swine herd health ensuring adherence to standard operating guidelines and production practices. The position will handle health related farm issues and will communicate these issues to the appropriate department head. Responsibilities include: working with farm personnel to assess health issues and coordinating with the Technical Services department to develop strategies that address those issues; collaboratively developing improved processes around production management, health management, genetic improvement, and bio-security; conducting farm assessments and evaluations; and assisting in training company personnel on proper animal husbandry practices.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Doctorate degree in a discipline directly related to job.
Experience: Three years plus related experience. Time in veterinary college counts towards experience.
Computer Skills: Standard computer skills; may require use of the Tyson Business Computer System.
Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills.
Special Skills: Requires licensure or willingness to obtain licensure in Arkansas and Oklahoma; a thorough understanding of diseases and disorders detrimental to the welfare of swine.
Other:
Supervisory: 1 Veterinary Technician.
Travel: 10 or more domestic trips per year.
Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. While performing the duties of this job the team member is regularly required to stand walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms balance stoop talk or hear. The team member must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment Required: When visiting facilities is expected to follow the required safety procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment.
Biosecurity: When visiting jobsites bio secure environments showering before entering the facilities is required. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. The Company Animal Welfare Policy must be followed at all times.
