This position requires knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, and grammar; basic legal requirements for special education; current occupational therapy assessment procedures; sensory techniques with autism or autism spectrum disorders.
Must possess the skill to learn and apply District policies and procedures related to occupational therapy (OT) assessments and therapy; understand and carry out instructions in an independent and responsible manner; communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; establish and maintain appropriate records and files; prepare accurate and concise reports and correspondence; analyze a given situation and implement an effective course of action in a timely manner and within the constraints of established District policies; clearly explain and defend recommendations at IEPs, hearings, mediations or other legal proceedings; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Must possess the ability to act as a liaison between the school district and other agencies as necessary; develop and implement training opportunities for educational staff and parents; stay abreast of current trends, innovations, and practices in the field of educational occupational therapy; work cooperatively with students, staff, parents, and the public; perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education to maintain the integrity of the educational occupational therapy program.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Possession of a valid certification as an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR) by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board. Must possess and maintain a valid Class "C" California Driver's License.
A PRE-PLACEMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT AND A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
DUTIES OF POSITION:
Provide for an educationally based occupational therapy assessment which includes student observation, records review, interview, standardized and non-standardized testing in areas related to a student's suspected disability. Consult and serve as a resource in training staff to implement an educational or physical intervention plan in the student's environment in support of the Individualized Education Program goals and objectives.
STARTING SALARY: $8,860.41 (monthly)
NUMBER OF MONTHS: 11 (to begin as soon as possible)
NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 7:30a.m. - 4:30p.m.)
