Summary
Create, review and manage new and existing food product labels, develop nutritional fact panels for products, develop ingredient statements and ensures products meet appropriate FDA/foreign country labeling guidelines. Support Marketing, Sales, Quality Assurance, Purchasing and Operations on regulatory and compliance related labeling issues. Keep abreast of domestic and international regulatory knowledge and share regulatory knowledge with others. Manage third party certifications and licenses for manufacturing facilities. May lead or participate in large cross-functional teams or projects that affect the organization’s long-term goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory, Labeling and nutrition support for Simplot businesses up to and including: foodservice, retail, joint venture and copack.
Responsible for the review and/or development of ingredient statements, allergen statements and nutrition facts panels.
Review package graphics for compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, domestic and international.
Advise the Company on regulatory issues and opportunities for product claims that are compliant to or permitted by relevant laws and regulations
Provide regulatory guidance and answer compliance-related questions regarding food products for internal and external customers.
Review marketing materials and recommend regulatory-compliant and marketing-appealing language to maximize marketing opportunities and claims.
Provide compliance recommendations by conducting research, advising of upcoming regulations, and evaluating the overall impact on the business.
Manage third party certifications as well as support and training for the manufacturing facilities to ensure compliance.
Maintain business licenses and certifications for Food Group manufacturing facilities.
Provide direction to Sales, Marketing, Research and Product Development in the interpretation and application of food regulations for export products.
Provide the organization with technical guidance on matters pertaining to Domestic and International Regulations in the areas of Food Product Standards, Labeling, and Compliance.
Typical Education
Bachelor's Degree from 4 year college or university
Relevant Experience
5+ years experience within the Food industry
Regulatory Knowledge of United States regulation relating to foods
Regulatory Knowledge of International regulations relating to foods preferred
Experience with Genesis ESHA Software
Other Information
Assist with review and approval of labels and subsequent label changes for compliance.
Assist senior management with establishing policy and alignment with, internal policies on labeling and claim support standards and practices to be followed within Simplot business units
Acts as Regulatory subject matter expert and adviser to Marketing, Operations, R&D, and QA regarding formulation, labeling, marketing, customs matters, and other regulatory issues that may arise. Works with local country executives/staff, external regulatory agencies, and third party consultants.
Communicate up-to-date knowledge of current US and relevant international labeling and food product regulations to internal partners.
Assure the effectiveness of processes and participate in the cross-functional review of all official formulas to confirm accuracy, support of all product claims and that all information for use in labeling is accurate and properly presented
Conducts legislative interpretation of government regulations, guidance documents, and standards for the markets to provide comprehensive analysis and recommend preventative measures.
Presents status reports, issues, & strategic regulatory analysis for management's decision making and strategic planning.
Briefs other members of the regulatory team on issues and changes that impact global regulatory matters.
Advises stakeholders such as the R&D and QA team on regulations that are vital to the company’s product innovation and quality system.
Support development and execution of regulatory assessments to ensure compliance and successful marketing of nutritional products in the United State.
Translate complex regulatory, scientific, and nutritional information into simple, easy to understand facts for consumers and other internal and external stakeholders.
