Position Summary:

Walmart's Advertising Technology group enables the connection between supplier brands and retail shoppers at unprecedented scale. We are a highly motivated group of engineers and data scientists, working in an agile group to solve sophisticated and high impact problems. We serve billions of ad requests every month with our high-performance ad servers. We build smart data systems that ingest, model, analyze and optimize the massive flow of data from online and store user activity and transactions. We use cutting edge machine learning, data mining and optimization algorithms on this data. Above all, we are laser focused on delivering experiences that our customers and advertisers love. This role is part of our Display Ads Server engineering team for Backend Services and will build the next generation omni-advertising platforms to deliver performance and value at scale. A successful person in this role will own certain components of the display advertising solutions, design, build & deliver new features, participate in architecture and technology choice discussions within the team and across WMC.

What you'll do:

Assist in providing technical leadership guidance to small groups of two to three engineers, including offshore associates, for assigned Engineering projects by providing pertinent documents, directions, examples, and timeline.

Provide communications and support to the business by responding to user questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility, implementation strategies); researching and identifying needed solutions; determining implementation designs; providing guidance regarding implications of new and enhanced systems; identifying short- and long-term solutions; and directing users to appropriate contacts for issues outside of associate's domain.

Research and identify alternative solutions; determine needed solution based on return on investment and value add to the business; gather requested information (for example, design documents, product requirements); write and develop code; conduct unit testing; communicate status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborate with project team and cross functional teams; identify areas of opportunity; interpret information and identify a solution; ensure solution is sustainable across implementation and use; troubleshoot open issues and bug-fixes; and ensure on-time delivery and hand-offs.

Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information (for example, issue, impact, criticality, possible root cause); performing root cause analysis to reduce future issues; engaging support teams to assist in the resolution of issues; developing solutions; driving the development of an action plan; performing actions as designated in the plan; interpreting the results to determine further action; and completing online documentation.

Participate in the discovery phase of small to medium-sized projects to come up with high level design by partnering with the product management, project management, business, and user experience teams.

Demonstrate up-to-date expertise and apply this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales.

Provide and support the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.

Model compliance with company policies and procedures and support company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans; using the Open Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in executing business processes and practices.

What you'll bring:

Experience developing software features to streamline and scaling streaming and batch jobs to customer data refresh.

Experience enhancing or implementing new features using Java, Spring boot and Kafka streams.

Experience implementing Docker for Containerization, and Kubernetes for orchestration.

Experience working with Big Data tools Hive, Big Query and Spark SQL etc.

Experience integrating with CI/CD with Looper and Concord.

Experience maintaining and improving existing codebases and peer review code changes.

Experience documenting and demonstrating solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.

Good to have experience and understanding of Advertisement domain.

BS degree or Higher in Computer Science.

3 years in software development, emerging technologies, integration, and data management.

Strong Software Engineering background is preferred.

Platform experience is highly desirable.

Sound business judgment as well as ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, scope technical requirements and prioritize.

Must be able and willing to think and act strategically and tactically.

Minimum Qualifications:

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Option 2: 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
