The
Corporate Health and Safety Director
is responsible for leading the health and safety program across J.H. Hassinger, Inc. This role oversees the development and implementation of behavior-based safety practices, ensures compliance with corporate, OSHA, and client safety standards, and conducts root-cause analyses for incidents. The Director will monitor and document the effectiveness of safety measures throughout the company and manage the development of site-specific health and safety plans for remediation and construction projects.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Collaborate with the President, Human Resources, and Division Managers to cultivate a proactive safety culture.Provide health and safety leadership and guidance to Division, Department, and Project Managers.Serve as the corporate health and safety subject matter expert, liaising with clients, regulators, and internal teams.Manage departmental budgets and allocate health and safety resources; assist in hiring additional personnel as needed.Act as the primary contact for health and safety issues.Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, project personnel, subcontractors, and local representatives.Develop, manage, and review site-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) for all projects.Appraise new safety regulations and integrate them into Hassinger operations as needed.Ensure all project personnel are trained in emergency response procedures.Serve as incident manager for any safety emergencies, ensuring prompt and effective resolution.Oversee the HASP orientation process for all new employees and relevant client personnel.Assist in preparing proposal responses with a focus on health and safety requirements.Review all contract documents for safety-related issues.Review and ensure subcontractor safety programs comply with corporate, OSHA, and client standards.Participate in pre-award, pre-construction, and field personnel meetings to address safety requirements.Conduct safety audits and prepare reports on findings and necessary corrective actions.Organize and lead safety training sessions; become certified to train on Hassinger-specific equipment.Implement daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and stretch and flex programs.ADDITIONAL DUTIES:Ensure compliance with Diggers Hotline requirements.Manage safety supply orders and inventory.Update and implement the Safety Handbook.Document safety processes and ensure compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT).Track employee training and certification.Oversee safety equipment inspections.Manage the ISN Network and leverage union training opportunities.QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:Minimum of 5 years of safety-related experience, preferably in heavy construction.Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation preferred.Willingness to travel as needed.Competencies required:Strong knowledge of industrial and construction health and safety standards.In-depth knowledge of OSHA requirements.Strong organizational skills, with excellent grammar and writing abilities.Proven leadership and motivational skills.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to research, analyze, and synthesize data from various sources.Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Experience with behavioral-based safety techniques.Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.WHAT WE OFFER:Opportunities for professional growth and development.A dynamic and supportive work environment.BENEFITS:J.
