The Business Development Manager for the Digital Health Industry Group (the DH group) plays a pivotal role within the expanding Global Life Sciences industry group and the overall firmwide marketing and business development team. This position will lead the marketing and business development planning and execution for the firm's DH group and collaborate with fellow business development colleagues to support other initiatives generated by adjacent groups.

This individual will play an integral role, working directly with partners and senior leadership in raising the profile of the DH group, both internally and externally, and driving initiatives that significantly contribute to client and pipeline development. The position will work closely with a large portion of the business development and marketing team, drawing on those resources to develop, deliver, and measure the results of DH-led initiatives and campaigns. This role reports to the Senior Business Development Manager for Life Sciences.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Lead the development and execution of the DH group's marketing and business development strategies in close collaboration with the group's leadership team.
  • Develop and drive the firm's DH-centric messaging across all marketing channels.
  • Work with business development and communications teams to produce the DH group's collateral and thought leadership pieces.
  • Collaborate across business development to ensure awareness of cross- and single-practice initiatives as well as industry developments and trends.
  • Work with business development leads to identify opportunities to introduce relevant new services to clients and prospects.
  • Identify subscriptions, memberships, and events that further industry knowledge and provide new sources for lead generation.
  • Coordinate with the group's leadership team to maximize awareness of the group's overall strategy and objectives with key constituents and stakeholders within the firm.
  • Develop strategies in collaboration with key attorneys as a means of generating business for the firm within the given industries and existing clients within those industries.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of innovative, distinctive, and integrated profile-raising campaigns and initiatives through the relevant industries, including client events, targeted seminar programs, client-facing material production, website development, digital and social media, etc.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities across industries and other practice areas and working with the practice leaders, other attorneys, and wider BD team to expand client relationships.
  • Coach lawyers on business and client development initiatives.


Desired Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in related field (Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered).
  • Law firm or professional services business development experience required.
  • Strong customer service ethic with a willingness to handle things large and small.
  • Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Extremely detail-oriented, with superior proofreading and fact-checking skills.
  • Efficient, highly organized and ability to stay productive under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Must be proficient in the use of MS Office including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Aptitude for learning new software, systems, databases, and procedures quickly.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments.
  • Self-motivated, positive attitude, and a deep curiosity about technology and life sciences.
  • Ability to travel and attend key events and meetings on occasion.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.
  • Position is ideally based in our Palo Alto, San Francisco, or New York offices, but this is negotiable.


The primary location for this job posting is in Palo Alto, but other locations may be listed. The actual base pay offered will depend upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to the selected candidate's qualifications, years of relevant experience, level of education, professional certifications and licenses, and work location. The anticipated pay range for this position is as follows:

San Francisco and Silicon Valley: $131,750 - $178,250 per year

Austin, Boston, Boulder, District of Columbia, Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, Seattle, and Wilmington: $119,000 - $161,000 per year

Salt Lake City and all other locations: $105,400 - $142,600 per year

The compensation for this position may include a discretionary year-end merit bonus based on performance. We offer a highly competitive salary and benefits package.
