Description:The position is for an experienced HSE certified competent person, and OSHA trainer for all aspects of work in the municipal construction industry. Minimum requirements would include the associated certifications and experience to manage the safety department of a 200+ employee company.Responsibilities:- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and develop strategies for prevention.- Track incidents or claims through medical attention, insurance processing, light duty, and return to work.- Prepare detailed reports on safety performance, including incident rates, trends, and recommendations for improvement.- Collaborate with management and employees to promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability.- Advise supervisory personnel on required/recommended safe practices.- Provide training and education on safety topics, including hazard recognition, emergency response, and personal protective equipment.- Utilize, supervise, and train on the use of KPA Safety software.- Ensure that employees acting in a supervisory capacity understand and enforce all safe work practices.- Ensure that a Competent Person is present at all jobsites where applicable.- Ensure that all PPE is inventoried, available, and being used properly.- Ensure that all employees operating construction equipment or a motor vehicle are qualified and certified to do so.- Ensure that all hand and power tools are in safe working order.- Ensure that all fall protection equipment is inventoried, inspected, available, and being used properly.- Ensure that trench safety and excavation safety design and safety guidelines are being followed.- Ensure that confined space guidelines and rules are documented and followed.- Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and regulatory changes related to workplace safety.Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field- 7+ years of proven experience in safety management or a similar role- Experience in concrete work, dirt work, pipe trenching, excavations, confined spaces, heavy equipment, and small tool safety- Experience in building structures, installing mechanical and equipment on projects up to $70M- Knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations- Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct root cause analysis- Excellent communication skills for writing reports, presenting findings, and teaching safety practices- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams at all levels of the organization- CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) Certification preferred- Spanish speaking required
