DescriptionThis position will be within Corporate Legal. Corporate Legal provides comprehensive relationship management and advice to the firm’s Corporate Functions and coordinates and sets firm policy on the areas covered by the following groups: Conflicts, Bank Regulation, Corporate Governance, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), Corporate Law, Financial Crimes and Political Law, Global Technology and the Firm’s Chief Administrative Office (CAO) functions. This position will fall within the Corporate Responsibility/Government Relations and ESG Practice group.As a State/Regulatory Engagement and Affirmative Challenges - Executive Director, Assistant General Counsel within our Corporate Legal team, you will be a trusted advisor to senior management and serve as the attorney responsible for providing day-to-day coverage of various legal and regulatory challenges arising across the Firm’s lines of businesses and coordinating a consistent response, working closely with the relevant Legal SMEs and the broader Corporate Legal team. The successful candidate will possess broad knowledge of both the federal and state rulemaking and legislative processes, along with a deep understanding of the banking regulatory environment. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong interpersonal skills, capable of leading internal and external partners toward a common goal. If these values resonate with you, we would like to hear from you.Job responsibilitiesServe as the primary point for contact for providing strategic guidance and support to internal stakeholders across the Firm, both through development of laws and regulations and in evaluating potential legislative or regulatory challenges.Establish and leverage connections throughout Legal, Government Relations, and the Office of Regulatory Affairs with the Special Counsel for Corporate Legal and Corporate Legal General Counsel, to help ensure consistency in strategy and approach.Coordinate trade association engagement with line of business and Corporate Legal SMEs, including tracking participation with trade associations and maintaining best practices for trade association engagement across the Firm.Prepare and maintain a catalog of potential and actual challenges. Draft internal materials and reports regarding contemplated or actual challenges in coordination with relevant Legal SMEs.Coordinate with outside counsel, internal litigation partners and relevant Legal SMEs regarding contemplated or actual litigation.Provide expert legal advice on federal and state legislation and regulatory matters affecting the Firm, coordinating with relevant Legal SMEs.Work with line of business Legal SMEs to develop and maintain a deep understanding of the Firm’s LOBs and the nuances of the laws and regulations specific to each LOB.Required qualifications, capabilities, and skillsAt least 10 years post-JD experience with strong legal generalist background. Administrative law and/or litigation experience preferred.Ability to provide constructive legal and non-legal challenge and to build consensus.Demonstrated ability to understand complex processes and organizations and to execute at speed, partnering with internal and external stakeholders.Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across levels and areas of expertise.All candidates for roles in the Legal department must be licensed to practice law in the country of employment and successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
