The Vice President & Chief Operating Officer (COO) of UT Health RGV is responsible for the strategic planning of clinical and ambulatory operations as well as the overall integration of the operations of UT Health RGV. This executive establishes, approves, and implements operational efficiencies, and serves as a resource and advisor to the Dean, School of Medicine and Sr. Vice President of UT Health RGV regarding operational matters.Description of Duties
As the operational business leader, directs the daily activities of UT Health RGV, while providing strategic direction and goal setting for operational executives in areas such as ambulatory operations, revenue cycle, and patient access.Responsible for formulation of long-range objectives, plans and programs, based on the overall clinical strategic plan and organizational goals.Builds and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders including affiliate hospitals, organizations, and healthcare providers. In collaboration with the Sr. Vice President of UT Health RGV, drives sustainable business development initiatives to expand UT Health RGV’s market presence.Collaborates with associated health system partners and affiliates to ensure each of the organization’s primary clinical, research, education, and community engagement missions are met.Establishes objectives and performance standards to measure effectiveness and efficiency of clinical and ambulatory areas.Coordinates competency and provision of staff development. Coordinates proper plans that will assure adequate recruitment and retention of clinical staff.Participates and collaborates with the executive team and departmental leadership in the decision-making processes of the clinical practice.In collaboration with the Chief Physician Executive, directs performance improvement measures related to patient access, patient satisfaction, and quality. Actively participates in the ongoing evaluation and selection of technology and health information systems that support patient care needs and the utilization of resources.Recommends and/or implements changes as necessary to ensure conformity to UT Health RGV policies and Joint Commission standards.Leads fiscal oversight of allocated resources to optimize return on investment in all clinical and service initiatives. Assures appropriate resources are assessed and obtained to meet patient care activities.Performs other duties as assigned.Supervision
Report directly to the Dean, School of Medicine and Sr. Vice President, UT Health RGV.Direct supervision of assigned staff.Required Education
Master’s degree in business administration, health administration, or related field.Required Experience
Seven (7) years of progressive operational leadership in a hospital or health system.Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/clinical environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.EEO Statement
