DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW The UCSC University Police Department handles all patrol, investigations, crime prevention, emergency management, homeland security, and related community policing duties for the UCSC campus. JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the selected incumbent serves a critical role in the University of California Police Department as a Police Lieutenant. A Police Lieutenant provides oversight and supervision for the operations of the Police Department including: patrol, investigations, citizen complaints, administrative investigations, crime prevention, records management, parking enforcement, dispatch, traffic enforcement, and community policing. APPOINTMENT INFORMATION Budgeted Salary:
$184,480- $190,500/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Benefits Level Eligibility:
Full benefits Schedule Information: Full-time, Fixed Percentage of Time: 100%, 40 Hours per Week: 4 days per week, 10 hour days Days of the Week: Mon-Fri Shift Includes: Day. *Note that there will be occasional need for the shift worked to be on weekends, nights or holidays for operations, special events and emergency incidents. JOB DUTIES 50% - Management Inspect, audit and oversee the responsibilities of various units or programs to insure compliance with department policies, procedures, regulations and standards. Assist in the development, maintain familiarity and ensure correct interpretation and compliance with system-wide, campus and department policies, procedures and general orders. Perform administrative duties such as reviewing correspondence, budget reports and activity reports. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma and / or equivalent certification / experience / training Broad experience performing all aspects of police officer and sergeant of police functions with knowledge of current law enforcement management theory and administrative standards. Knowledge of current police methods and procedures, including apprehension and arrest, criminal investigations, collection and presentation of evidence, and police record keeping. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience and / or training. Training and certification in Emergency Management and experience in managing critical incidents. SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-hire criminal history background check and a pre-hire credentialing check. Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California.
