DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The UCSC University Police Department handles all patrol, investigations, crime prevention, emergency management, homeland security, and related community policing duties.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the selected incumbent serves as a Police Lieutenant, providing oversight and supervision for the operations of the Police Department.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary:
$184,480- $190,500/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications, and experience.
Schedule Information:
Full-time, Fixed
Percentage of Time: 100%, 40 Hours per Week: 4 days per week, 10 hour days
Days of the Week: Mon-Fri
Shift Includes: Day.
JOB DUTIES
50% - Management
Inspect, audit and oversee the responsibilities of various units or programs.
Perform administrative duties such as reviewing correspondence and budget reports.
Oversee the hiring process, including interviewing and recommending personnel for hire.
Conduct confidential investigations as assigned.
15% - Safety and Security Planning
Evaluate and develop strategies to mitigate security risk factors for the campus.
Manage and coordinate department response to all campus events that require a police presence.
10% - Budget
Ensure proper use of departmental funds for training and fleet services.
10% - Training and Development
Oversee training and development of assigned personnel.
10% - Investigations
Conduct sensitive internal investigations as directed.
5% - Other Duties as Assigned
Read and follow the UCSC Principles of Community.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma and/or equivalent certification/experience/training.
Broad experience performing all aspects of police officer functions.
Knowledge of current police methods and procedures.
Demonstrated experience as a commissioned police officer with supervisory experience.
Strong ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a related area.
Training and certification in Emergency Management.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-hire criminal history background check.
Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California.
Must be 21 years old or older at the time of hire.
Must possess a current California POST advanced and supervisory certificate.
