As our new Corporate IP Attorney, you will be responsible for prosecuting and defending the Company’s patents, trademarks, and copyrights. In addition, you will oversee Sensient's trade secret and NDA program, as well as advise R&D teams on patentability and freedom to operate.In this role, you will be office-based in one of our following locations: Milwaukee, WI / Hofman Estates, IL / Somerset, NJ / St Louis, MO, and you will report to the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary.What you will do:Advise General Counsel, Management, and R&D teams on all IP law mattersAssess the patentability of new ideas and innovations, including conducting white space analyses and drafting freedom to operate opinion lettersProsecute (with outside counsel) the Company’s patent, trademark, and copyright applicationsReview potential infringements of the Company’s IP, work with outside litigation counsel to bring cases against infringers and defend Sensient against infringement claimsClosely supervising outside counselDraft and negotiate intellectual property licensing agreements as well as joint development contractsOversee Sensient's trade secret protection program, including negotiating NDAs with vendors and trade partnersWork with in-house and outside attorneys to handle all IP aspects of acquisitions and divestituresReview incoming employment and confidentiality agreements to ensure no potential violations of other parties’ IPAdvise the Scientific Advisory Committee on IP legal mattersParticipate in the Company’s Chemical Risk StrategyConduct training programs for staff and the Board of DirectorsWhat you will bring:A JD degree from an accredited law school, with a license to practice law in the United StatesAn undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field2-4 years of experience as a patent attorney and ideally admitted to the USPTO Patent BarHighly developed written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate recommendations and options about complex legal issues - also in plain English language to non-lawyersExcellent management skills and business judgment with a capacity to make decisionsAn understanding of overall business objectives and the risks/rewards of each situation to provide sound, practical counselProactive initiative taker, aiming to get the job done with minimal directionWhat you will get:The opportunity to collaborate with your colleagues, onsite 5 days per week in a buzzing office environmentAn excellent salary, benefit offering, and development opportunitiesA thorough and effective training experience during onboarding and beyondGlobal exposure and opportunities to work (with outside counsel) in a culturally diverse organizationAbout Sensient:Sensient Technologies Corporation is a leading global manufacturer and marketer of colors, flavors, and extracts.
