From the moment a seed is planted through to harvest, crops need to be protected from weeds, insects and diseases as well as droughts and floods, heat and cold.Syngenta Crop Protection is headquartered in Switzerland.Job DescriptionRole Purpose:To lead a team of development chemists in a productive and efficient manner, including, but not limited to project prioritization, resource allocation, people development and performance management.Provide specialist scientific and product expertise required to design and deliver work programs defined by a group leader. Often responsible for initiating and implementing changes to established protocols or systems.In collaboration with functional partners, provide technical oversight of production and supply chain operations to ensure the robustness of Syngenta products in the marketplace.In collaboration with team members, identify and progress technology initiatives leading to new and differentiated Syngenta products.To provide tangible business benefit through delivery of their own portfolio of projects.Accountabilities:Define, together with customers & stakeholders, the scope and targets of projects.Determine the appropriate skills and resources necessary for successful delivery.Drive the progress, quality, and resource utilization of significant projects for their team members, as well as their own. Guide the experimental work as necessary.Ensures effective cross-functional teamwork and global networking.Assists the Group Leader / Manager in the development of efficient processes and may act as a deputy for their superior.Strives for personal and professional development for themselves and their team members by maintaining active awareness of technical advances inside and outside Syngenta.Ensures that all activities are conducted in compliance with Syngenta Health, Safety & Environment policies. Fosters an atmosphere of safety and continuous improvement.Time distribution expected to be about 50% for management & administration, and 50% for the execution of their own technical/laboratory projects.This is an onsite position located in Greensboro, North Carolina.QualificationsRequired:Qualification in Chemistry or Engineering; Masters with 7+ years of experience, or Ph.D. with 2+ years of experience.Strong technical background in colloid and/or polymer science.In depth technical understanding of formulation excipients (e.g. surfactants, structuring aids, adjuvants).Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.Flexibility and adaptability to change and adjust to business needs.Demonstrated ability to develop strong team/interpersonal relationships with customers and colleagues.Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving and innovation capabilities.Self-driven continuous technical growth and innovation.Preferred:Experience in leading small teams/supervising junior scientists.Comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end processes for product development and lifecycle management.Knowledge of biological and chemical/physical product performance criteria for products.Experience working in a dynamic high performing team.Additional InformationWhat We Offer:A culture that celebrates diversity & inclusion, promotes professional development, and strives for a work-life balance that supports the team members.
