POSITION :
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Tonja Williams Knight, seeks highly motivated, transformational leaders for the position of Principal of the Occupational Training Center. The principal provides school building & district leadership for the NYSAA program and collaborates with district leaders to achieve district goals and initiatives as they properly implement District policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS :
Candidates must hold at a minimum, a Master’s degree, and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), New York State School Supervisor (SAS), or School Building Leader (SBL) certificate. It is required that candidates must attach a PDF or screen shot of their certifications.
Candidates must have a minimum of eight years combined certificated teaching and supervisory experience, with a minimum of two years at the supervisory level. Candidates with prior Principal or administrative experience in an urban school district or in a district with a large diverse population are preferred. OVERVIEW: Buffalo Public Schools (BPS) has begun a period of change that seeks to transform the district and its schools. A significant level of local, state and federal attention and investment in BPS has characterized the last few years providing an incredible opportunity to ensure that all of its students graduate prepared to succeed in college or a well-paying career. Under the leadership of Interim Superintendent Dr. Tonja Williams, BPS has entered into the New Education Bargain with Students and Parents. Currently, BPS is seeking highly competent, motivated, dedicated and fully engaged individuals to accept leadership roles throughout the District's 59 schools and Central Office to serve the academic, emotional, and physical needs of approximately 34,000 students through the elements of the New Education Bargain. The Interim Superintendent is leading a talented and committed leadership team with the aim of moving BPS toward world class status and preparing all students for success.
POSITION:
Buffalo Public Schools seeks a highly effective administrator with a track record of success. We seek an instructional leader who also possesses an exemplary managerial and operational skill-set and mindset who will give no and take no excuses to transform the school to a high performing educational organization.
The new leader will change the public’s ideas about how children learn in the 21 st century and will redefine expectations about what young people in America’s urban centers are capable of achieving. The new principal will have a significant level of autonomy and flexibility to drive instructional, budgetary and strategic practices.
The new principal will receive high levels of support in demand for high levels of accountability. This will be provided through the Office of School Leadership. The district empowers school leaders. In exchange, the district holds school leaders and instructional staff accountable for student learning, their own professional development, and their contributions to the school learning community.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Candidates are responsible for, but not limited to the following:
Instructional Leadership
create and communicate a School Comprehensive Education Plan (SCEP) aligned with the district’s vision and goals
provide advisement to school-based administrative teams that have NYSAA classrooms in their school building
support NYSAA teachers throughout the district with instructional curriculum, program enhancements, and the state assessment
conduct classroom observations and evaluations of teachers that lead to positive changes in teacher practices and increased student outcomes
assess the strengths and areas in need of improvement of faculty and staff based on a sound knowledge base
communicate district-wide changes and anticipated actions with the support of data; •
work in collaboration with the Special Education administration team to support CSE procedural compliance, placement of NYSAA students, and professional development of NYSAA teachers
work to develop and maintain clear lines of communication and collaboration between staff, administrators, students, and parents for the purpose of improving student outcomes
Teaching and Learning
establish priority areas for instructional focus and make necessary changes in those areas to strengthen teaching and improve student learning
ensure that all school leaders and instructional staff monitor progress regularly, and systematically make adjustments to strengthen teaching and student learning
Curriculum
collaboratively conduct a comprehensive curriculum review of material to make sure there is compliance with state and local standards for students requiring alternate learning standards
ensure instruction meets the needs of all students with significant disabilities
ensure programmatic documents are implemented in accordance with the district’s pacing calendars
align the implementation of work-based learning and community-based instructional experiences to a student’s IEP goals
Collection, Analysis, and Utilization of Data
ensure improved student achievement by analyzing data, i.e., using data to make informed decisions, drive for results, and set high performance goals for students
monitor standards for achievement
prioritize school resources to activities that will yield maximum results
Infrastructure for Student Success
communicate and model the mission, core values, and strategic objectives
ensure a collaborative culture by expecting teams to set standards for their work, and take action to meet the standards
develop effective processes to plan for continuous improvement, solve problems, and to achieve desired results
foster a positive school climate where student discipline concerns are addressed in a manner that promotes social learning
implement social-emotional learning to improve student responsibility and mutual respect of others
Professional Development
arrange for targeted professional development based on analyses
facilitate the development of staff by providing coaching and support
facilitate and schedule the training of NYSAA teachers for the implementation of the NYSAA assessment
arrange for annual training of community-based education and work-based learning
