Location : Silver Spring, MD (Hybrid: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote)

About Our Client :Our client, a well-established company in the Silver Spring area, is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist on a contract basis. The role involves overseeing full-cycle payroll processing for 300+ employees, including multi-state payroll, and will require experience with ADP and CostPoint systems. This position offers the opportunity to join a collaborative team, providing payroll and benefits support, as well as assisting with payroll reconciliations and recordkeeping tasks.
Job Description :As a Senior Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of payroll for 300+ employees. You’ll maintain payroll records, resolve payroll discrepancies, work closely with HR and tax teams, and support payroll audits. This role is essential to the efficient operation of payroll functions and requires a detail-oriented individual with extensive CostPoint experience.
Key Responsibilities :
Payroll Administration :
Process semi-monthly payroll for 300+ employees, including exempt and non-exempt staff, using ADP.
Review and validate timesheets in CostPoint for accuracy, ensuring correct project allocation.
Maintain employee payroll records in ADP and ensure compliance with relevant policies and tax requirements.
Address payroll discrepancies and provide responsive solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
Perform payroll reconciliations (e.g., quarterly 941, 401(k), etc.) and collaborate with tax agencies when necessary.
Recordkeeping & Reporting :
Ensure the integrity of payroll and financial records, both electronically and paper-based.
Prepare and submit payroll reports as required by internal teams or external clients.
Provide documentation and assistance during audits by external accounting firms.
Suggest and implement improvements to payroll systems and processes.
Collaboration :
Work closely with HR, finance, and tax departments to ensure smooth payroll processing and reconciliations.
Respond to payroll inquiries and provide excellent customer service to both internal and external partners.
Participate in staff meetings and contribute to the overall success of the team.
Qualifications :
6+ years of payroll experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 10+ years of experience without a degree.
Proven experience processing full-cycle payroll for 300+ employees, including multi-state payroll.
Extensive experience with ADP & CostPoint required.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in reviewing payroll records and resolving discrepancies.
Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Familiarity with payroll tax regulations and benefit reconciliations.
Additional Details :
Contract Duration : 4 months with a possibility of extension.
Start Date : ASAP
Hours : 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Background Check : Federal background check will be required.
