As Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for:Designing and building our next-generation data platformDeeply understanding Apple data, how the business uses itProactively identifying opportunities to serve the business through technical innovationPartnering with engineers and PMs in the Data, DevOps, and SWE spacesDelivering high-quality systems that are resilient, scalable, and performantIn this role, you will:
Partner with leadership to define and prioritize areas of focusInfluence engineering and PM partners to drive the best solutions for the businessDesign technical solutions that directly impact DSI customers’ efficacy in their rolesDemonstrate rigor through implementations that: scale to meet business needs, are always available and run efficientlyMentor, coach, and otherwise invest in other colleaguesDocument clear requirements, decompose work into meaningful piecesProvide clear milestones, dates, and deliver reliablyResearch novel technologies, build proofs of concept, present learningsMinimum Qualifications
7+ years engineering experience3+ years experience in the data, platform, and infrastructure spaceDeep understanding of data - storage, processing, technologies, and common challengesAbility to understand complex systems and design solutions that balance cost with resilienceComfort using both interpreted languages like Python and compiled languages like Go, Java, Kotlin, or SwiftExperience with Spark, Airflow, Data Lakes and similar technologiesTalent in creatively and resourcefully solving problemsStrong communication and ability to effectively influencePreferred Qualifications
10+ years engineering experienceExperience working as a lead or manager of engineering teamsExpert-level knowledge of distributed systems like Kafka, ZooKeeper, Trino, Flink, IcebergExperience building and operating a data platform from 0-100Deep knowledge of AWSBS or MS in Engineering/Computer ScienceAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You’ll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses — including tuition.
