Atomic
Systems Engineer
Atomic, Santa Clara, California, us, 95053
Atomic Machines is on Earth to radically advance humanity’s command over matter. Our mission is real-time bits-to-atoms manufacturing of anything at any scale, and to that end, we’re developing an entirely new digital micro-device manufacturing platform that is going to redefine how things are made, and do so while simultaneously enabling the rapid creation at any scale of new classes of machines – think medical micro-robotics, true lab-on-chip microfluidics, tunable antennas, ultrafast high-power and high-frequency RF switching devices and many more. The first device we are building with our platform has exceptional large-scale product/market fit and commercial traction, and we are pushing hard to share it with the world. Our offices are in Berkeley and Santa Clara, California.About this role:We are looking for a talented and seasoned Systems Engineer to join as a key member of the Systems Engineering department, to help us establish strong foundations for successfully attaining the long-term goals of our company. The ideal candidate is well-versed in complex system design, requirements definition, architecture definition, system integration, system verification and validation, and risk management. The ideal candidate is also experienced in robotics, applied physics, controls, mechatronics and computer science. Atomic Machines is on a rapid growth trajectory. We are developing the foundational architecture for our automated manufacturing platform which uses robotics as a key building block. This role has the opportunity to be a driving force in the development of Systems Engineering practices and adoption at Atomic Machines, and will have a major influence in system definition, development and implementation. This position is available at either our Berkeley or Santa Clara locations. What You'll Do:
Define, analyze, and develop essential requirements for the Atomic Machines system.Collaborate with cross-functional design teams to conceptualize and refine design concepts, and establish operational models.Develop and maintain software system models and simulation tools to create digital prototypes and validate key requirements.Document implemented designs and develop clear interface documentation for hardware and software modules.Identify and mitigate latent risks across the system early and effectively.Engage in problem-solving for complex, multi-subsystem issues in a dynamic startup environment. What You'll Need:
Experience: 5+ years working on complex electromechanical systems.Documentation: Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.Culture Fit: Productive participation in scrum meetings, driving clarity and alignment, and influencing cross-disciplinary teams.Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python, familiarity with C/C++, and experience with software tools like Git.Knowledge: Strong grasp of math and physics, engineering principles, mechanical aptitude, and manufacturing experience.Attributes: Creativity, problem-solving skills, ownership of projects, willingness to learn quickly, and ability to work autonomously in ambiguous situations.Bonus: Experience with 2D or 3D visualization tools.Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Systems Engineering, or a related field.$140,000 - $170,000 a year
