Description

Nature of Work:

Under general supervision, performs entry-level technical or specialized work in maintaining and repairing Bonita Springs Utilities (BSU's) equipment and facilities. Performs tasks in the areas of construction, maintenance and repair of waterlines, valves, fire hydrants, meters and any other equipment related to the distribution system.

Responsibilities:

The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of tasks performed in this classification. Incumbents may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Installs and changes meters, waterlines, and other equipment as directed.
  • Maintains and repairs fire hydrants, waterlines, meters, valves, and other equipment related to the distribution system.
  • Maintains and repairs wastewater force mains and gravity collection mains and laterals.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies on vehicle.
  • Locates and marks water mains, force mains, and gravity mains .
  • Inspects and tests tools, vehicles, and safety gear; reviews and restocks supplies; performs service vehicle inventory
  • Repairs service leaks and/or main leaks and breaks.
  • Performs routine cleaning, maintenance, and repair of distribution equipment, vehicles, and buildings.
  • Operates a variety of small equipment (i.e. jack hammers, concrete saws, chain saws)
  • Keeps records of work performed and submits reports as required.
  • Safeguards all assigned tools, equipment, and electronics from theft, loss, destruction and/or negligence.
  • Functions on a rotating "on call" basis for emergency response.
  • Remains in contact via company phone/radio at all times in the event of an emergency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Operation and control of equipment.

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Using basic hand tools.
  • Exercise good judgement and initiative.
  • Clearly communicate and understand information, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalency
Licenses and/or Certifications:
  • State of Florida driver's license and be able to obtain Class "A" CDL with tanker and air brakes endorsements within first year of employment
  • State of Florida Distribution Level IV License must be obtained within 24 months
  • Backflow testing and repair certificate within first year of employment
  • Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification within 6 months.


Salary Description

$22.00/Hour Starting Pay
