Position Description

Catawba County is recruiting for a Land Records Mapper/GIS Technician to update the County's Geographic Information System (GIS) and ensure correct ownership in the Land Records System, and research issues that arise involving the accuracy of existing parcels and right of way. Responsibilities
Update and maintain GIS by completing all land splits, and property adjustments by using recorded deeds, and other legal documentsMaintain parcel identification numbers, annexed areas, right-of-ways, and acreage information used for assessing land valueMaintain correct property ownership information within deed files, GIS, and Land Records/CAMA softwareResearch deeds, and other legal documents to clarify information and confirm that data shown on GIS is accurate, as neededProvide general and technical assistance to the general public, other county departments and external agencies concerning real estate transactions, mapping issues and resolutions, and property locationQualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Computer Information, Math, Paralegal, or other related degrees that demonstrates the ability/aptitude to perform technical land records mapping; ORAssociates Degree in Geography, Computer Information, Math, Paralegal or related degree and one year of work experience that demonstrates the ability/aptitude to perform technical land records mapping; ORGraduation from High School or GED equivalent and two years of work experience that demonstrates the ability/aptitude to perform technical land records mappingADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Local Governmental Employees Retirement System:
For employees assigned to work 20 hours per week or more in a benefitted position, participation in this program is automatic. Employees contribute 6% of their salary, which is tax deferred. After (5) years of creditable service, you become fully vested in the retirement system. Employees may also take advantage of individual and group retirement counseling through the Human Resources department.401K:
The County provides a 2% contribution plus an additional 1% match (up to 3% total contribution by the County). Our sworn law enforcement officers receive a flat 5% contribution to their 401k.Other Tax Deferred Programs:
Other tax-sheltering programs are available through IRS Code 125 (Cafeteria Plan), and a 457 supplemental retirement plan (Deferred Compensation).Longevity Pay:
