between the Communicable Disease, Immunizations, and Adult Health programs based on staffing and patient needs. In this position, you will provide direct care which includes preventing illness as well as promotion, preserving, and improving health of the community. Responsibilities
General DutiesPatient education and counseling Familiarization with Standing Orders, Procedures, and clinical protocols Participate in shelter or mass dispensing operations during Public Health emergencies
While in the Communicable Disease Clinic duties include:Conduct daily communicable disease surveillance, identification, investigation and follow up using the North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NCEDSS) and local surveillance methods. Ensure individuals with communicable diseases understand the disease's health consequences, treatment, control measures, relevant NC Laws, their responsibilities, and public health guidelines at local, state, and federal levels for preventing and protecting public health. Identify, investigate and manage tuberculosis (TB) control in the community including case management of active and latent TB cases Communicate and coordinate with NC DPH and local healthcare providers to respond to disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies and events
While in the Immunizations Clinic duties include:Administer immunizations to children and adults Assist with maintenance of vaccine inventory Help with assessing organization and county immunization rates Monitor vaccine refrigerator and freezer temperatures and alarms Participate in flu clinics during flu season
Plan for and participate in mass vaccination functions Manage TB medication inventory to ensure appropriate medications and associated supplies are available
While in the Adult Health Clinic duties include:Provide direct patient care to clients attending the Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Disease, and Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Program Clinics
Collect medical history and post-conferences information/education Administer and dispense of medications, including birth control methods Schedule referrals and return appointments Perform patient triage Follow-up on abnormal finds (paps, labs, referrals)
While in the Lab duties include:Adherence to lab procedures in performing quality control and laboratory tests Follow OSHA regulations to ensure safety while in the Lab
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Associates degree from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing. Individuals employed in a local health department without a degree that includes a Public Health Nursing rotation will be required to complete the "North Carolina Credential Public Health Nurse" course within one year of employment.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:A valid Driver's license with a safe driving record
Considerable knowledge of communicable disease and NC related laws as well as the local health care system and resources
Excellent communication, both oral and written, as well as interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain a calm demeanor under a variety of conditions
High focus on discernment and protection of confidentiality
Effective organization and multi-tasking skills
Strong judgment and problem solving skills
Efficient computer skills in data entry and word processing; Excel is helpful but not required This position is considered Medium Work, requiring the ability to lift up to 50 pounds as well as the ability to carry, pull, and push up to 50 pounds.

An employee medical clinic, available to all County employees, which operates 40 hours a week. Services provided include acute care, first aid, evaluation and care for workers' compensation injuries, pre-employment screenings, health education, and behavioral health referrals. Services offered both in person and through telehealth. Acute care available to employee's children ages 5-17 regardless of health insurance coverage and for employee's adult children (ages 18-26) or employee's spouse if covered on the county's health insurance.
Wellness:
The County recognizes the importance of our health and well-being. We maintain a very proactive and effective Wellness Program, including reimbursement and discounts for gym membership, incentives for physical activity, on-site nutrition counseling, free exercise opportunities, wellness education and more.

Financial Security
Local Governmental Employees Retirement System:
For employees assigned to work 20 hours per week or more in a benefitted position, participation in this program is automatic. Employees contribute 6% of their salary, which is tax deferred. After (5) years of creditable service, you become fully vested in the retirement system. Employees may also take advantage of individual and group retirement counseling through the Human Resources department.
401K:
The County provides a 2% contribution plus an additional 1% match (up to 3% total contribution by the County). Our sworn law enforcement officers receive a flat 5% contribution to their 401k.
Other Tax Deferred Programs:
Other tax-sheltering programs are available through IRS Code 125 (Cafeteria Plan), and a 457 supplemental retirement plan (Deferred Compensation).
Longevity Pay:
After 5 years of creditable service, employees receive an annual longevity payment that is paid every year thereafter. This lump sum payment rewards employees for their length of service to Catawba County. The amount is based on years of service.
Life Insurance:
Death benefit equal to one times employee's annual salary with a minimum coverage amount of $25,000. Optional supplemental life insurance coverage is also available for both employee and dependents through payroll deduction at group rates.
Short Term Disability:
Available at no cost to employees, benefits are available after a 55-day waiting period.
Long Term Disability:
Available through payroll deduction at group rates.
