Position Purpose
The Senior Field Service Controls Engineer (PLC) plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless installation, calibration, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of automated equipment at client manufacturing sites. This position focuses on providing expert-level software support, including PLC code modifications and adjustments, to maintain optimal equipment performance and address client-specific needs.
Key Technologies and Systems:
Utilize Bosch, Allen Bradley, Siemens, or Beckhoff PLC control systems. Develop Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications using Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform (Vision and/or Perspective modules). Design and implement high-speed, high-precision servo-based motion control systems. Integrate 4- to 6-axis robotic systems for automated solutions. Create custom user interfaces compliant with SEMI standards to enhance usability and functionality. Implement 2D and 3D laser metrology for precision measurement. Develop SCADA and HMI systems for seamless system monitoring and control. Apply vision-guided motion techniques to enhance automation and precision in manufacturing processes. Responsibilities
Collaborate with a field service team to develop and deploy advanced automation software solutions tailored to customer requirements. Perform on-site installation, calibration, and troubleshooting of automated equipment to ensure optimal functionality and adherence to specifications. Architects, designs, codes, tests, and maintains complex PLC software applications. Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in PLC software design, testing techniques, and PLC software development tools. Provides design guidelines, and general and detailed software design specifications to other software engineers. Effectively assess and communicate project risks. Deliver risk mitigation plans. Suggests new and innovative approaches to solving problems. Interfaces with customers during specification, design-review, buy-off, and installation phases. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent organizational, problem solving, and time management skills. Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. Excellent PLC software development skills. Expert at PLC programming of Allen Bradley, Bosch, and/or Siemens PLCs. PLC servo motion control integration experience. Experience programming safety controllers and safety PLCs Excellent PLC UI development skills (following SEMI standards). Ability to startup and debug complex systems. Ability to read electrical schematics. Ability to derive solutions to complex problems. Able to use existing standards, procedures, and practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Use Microsoft software – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc. Education and Experience
BSEE or BSME required 5-7 years recent manufacturing and machine control programming experience required. 5 years PLC Development experience required. 3+ years leading teams of PLC programmers preferred. Experience integrating software with SCARA and 6-Axis robots required. Experience with software project management required. Experience with SCADA systems and HMI development required. The physical demands listed here are typical for the role and may be modified upon request for reasonable accommodation. The employee may be working at a personal computer workstation for most of the workday on the shop floor. The position requires the employee to communicate with others including talking and hearing, in environments with significant ambient noise. The employee must be able to wear personal protective equipment and gear for much of the workday.
