What you'll do The Pharmacy Purchasing Specialist is responsible for procuring a variety of pharmaceuticals, services, equipment, and supplies in a timely, cost effective manner to ensure the clinical and pharmacy departments served are adequately stocked to deliver care across the Bassett Healthcare Network. The Pharmacy Purchasing Specialist manages daily operations of pharmacy purchasing and inventory control at assigned network locations, these operations may include but are not limited to controlled substance procurement, drug recall management and/or communication, and inventory management. Consistently orders product using best possible source of procurement with the goal of achieving contract compliance across multiple purchase accounts and contracts. Responsible for working within 340B policy and within the cooperation of the 340B program and its financial analysts. Researches back-orders and locates substitute products as necessary. Establish and/or uses reports for reviewing procurement of pharmaceuticals. Orders controlled substances based on standard process for ordering and in compliance with DEA requirements. Works in conjunction with the Department Operations Coordinator and Pharmacy leadership in the development, justification and maintenance of the pharmacy budget for inpatient services. Monitors drug line expenses monthly and provides appropriate variance reports with corresponding explanations. Reconciles quarterly the expected rebates and contract pricing compliance. Responsible for the procurement of pharmaceuticals and other pharmacy supplies that are needed to meet departmental and medical center wide demands. Evaluates the hospital’s need for medications and follow the necessary processes for obtaining adequate supply. Evaluates drug for possible substitution with less expensive generics. Monitors usage of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies to ensure adequate stock levels. Places orders with wholesalers and other approved selected vendors to purchase pharmaceuticals and supplies. Provides usage figures and pricing, upon request, to Pharmacy Leadership, finance and accounts payable departments, or their designees. Arranges with vendors to resolve incorrect shipments, defective shipments or over-shipments and coordinates ensuring appropriate account credits are received. Manages the drug shortage process, provides input into weekly publications and ensures appropriate communication to pharmacy staff and external customers regarding drug shortages. Investigates status of back-orders and, if necessary, locates direct, 503b vendor and/or secondary suppliers. Manages the annual physical inventory of the pharmacy department. Monitors pharmacy purchasing compliance and is expected to meet key performance indicators for on- contract purchasing to minimize organizational pharmaceutical cost. Manages pharmacy purchasing automation systems including pharmacy wholesaler/dispensing technology interfacing. Manages pharmaceutical borrow/loan processes as needed compliantly with 340b regulations. Responsible for compliant program purchasing in assistance with 340B team including understanding of 340B, GPO, and WAC purchasing. 16. Manages 503b vendor outsourced purchasing and evaluates 503b vendors as needed. Oversees pharmaceutical reverse distribution and return process and ensures appropriate credits are received from wholesalers and vendors. Maintains compliance with Drug Supply Chain Security Act. Returns pharmaceuticals and radiological for credit as required (i.e., out-dates, overstocks, etc.). Proper credit is received, and appropriate sub-accounts are credited. Effectively maintains all required records for the Purchasing office; demonstrates good organizational skills. Assists Pharmacy Leadership with market trend studies and cost analysis. Coordinates monthly inter-departmental billing processes to appropriately transfer costs to necessary costs centers. Places requisitions and generates purchase orders through Infor for pharmacy department purchases. Responsible for management of pharmaceutical recalls, determines levels of recalled medications in stock and maintains records in accordance with department and regulatory requirements. Reconciles vendor invoices with merchandise received, ensures correct pricing with the wholesaler and reports any pricing discrepancies to vendor and Pharmacy Manager. Performs Pharmacy Technician duties as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned to facilitate operation of the Pharmacy Department. What we need from you Education: 2 year / Associate Degree, preferred Experience: Minimum 2 years hospital pharmacy or pharmaceutical purchasing setting, required Licensure/Certifications: Certified Pharmacy Technician, required Skills: Analysis & Evaluation Computer Skills Project Management/Planning Accounting Communication Creative Thinking Physical Requirements: Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Pay Range Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. Pay Range Minimum: USD $21.53/Hr. Pay Range Maximum: USD $32.30/Hr.
