GENERAL SUMMARYThe Pharmacy Purchasing Coordinator reports to the department leadership under the direction of the Pharmacy Support Manager. The Pharmacy Purchasing Coordinator's core responsibility is the purchasing of all pharmaceuticals within the hospital to maintain appropriate inventory levels while ensuring 340B and GPO contract compliance.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProcesses all purchase orders for pharmaceuticals for both the pharmacy department and health system. Codes invoices for purchase accounting for the Accounts Payable department.Audits drug pricing, contract changes, and inventory levels to maximize institutional savings.Ensures all drug purchasing programs are in compliance with all regulations and current practice.Ensures that 340B and contract compliance is fully implemented in all areas.In cooperation with the 340B Coordinator, serves as the departmental liaison for software vendors, the group purchasing organization, wholesale distributors, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and representatives from state sponsored pharmaceutical distribution programs.Provides timely resolution and/or communication of any issues regarding 340B and contract purchasing.Assists with the oversight of the Pharmacy Inventory Specialist by performing quality assurance checks and monitoring procurement processes.Controls and monitors drug purchases on GPO, WAC, and 340B accounts.Works closely with Pharmacy Support Manager to provide accurate bookkeeping of pharmacy expenditures.Performs other duties as assigned.LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONSPharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certification required.MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSRequired:Bachelor's degree in a related field, with 1-2 years of hospital purchasing experience, or 4-5 years of hospital purchasing experience.Must have Apexus 340B University OnDemand Certificate within 6 months of hire.Ability to successfully conduct all aspects of purchasing, storage, handling, and knowledge of market regulations.Must be capable of maintaining a strong, effective working relationship with vendors, Materials Management, Accounts Payable, Corporate Compliance, and other relevant hospital departments.Must be results-oriented and capable of accommodating changes in the purchasing program by reviewing and updating procedures periodically.Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Ability to collaborate and interact with a diverse group of healthcare professionals.Ability to effectively handle ambiguity and multiple overlapping priorities.Preferred:Accounting, inventory control, and medical terminology experience.Experience and Knowledge of 340B program and pharmacy GPO (group purchasing organization) policies and procedures.WORKING CONDITIONSPharmacy employees work in or near a clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Minimal or occasional exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common in a healthcare environment.
