Here, we will bring together talent and expertise, building upon GSK's long history of vaccine development, to create globally leading viral capabilities and cutting-edge vaccines technologies, as we add to our robust portfolio targeting infectious diseases at every stage of life.In the plan to create a new hub for mRNA-based vaccine discovery in Cambridge, we are building new laboratories that will be focused on the development of state-of-the-art methods that will be supporting deep product understanding, process and product development, as well as testing of pre-clinical and clinical samples for new mRNA-based vaccines.As a Principal Scientist, you will be expected to be able to use your knowledge of virology and molecular biology to independently design and execute experiments with guidance from the lab head and project teams. You must be self-motivated to deliver vaccine program objectives on time and be able to identify and mitigate any potential delays.Key Responsibilities:
Apply virology and molecular biology expertise to the design and development of GSK vaccine projectsImplementation of new technologies to help drive vaccine developmentProvide effective and inspiring leadership with an enterprise mindset, ensuring support to professional development and qualification of staffPossesses strong scientific leadership to enable collaboration with key scientific internal and external stakeholders.Publish in peer reviewed journalsSupervise students and junior lab personnel as neededBasic Qualifications:
PhD with 3+ years of post-doc and/or job-related experience, MS with 6+ years of experience, or BS with 9+ years of experience in a related Biotechnology field.Three or more years of post-graduate experience in virology, preferably with human respiratory viruses or human herpes viruses.Two or more years of experience with virus reverse geneticsThree or more years of experience conducting a wide array of molecular biology techniquesPreferred Qualifications:
Biosafety Level 3 experienceInvolvement in or collaboration with the pharmaceutical industrySaturation mutagenesis screensWorking with large project teams in a matrix environment.Excellent communication abilities to effectively articulate complex scientific dataBasic skills in statistical analysisFluency in spoken and written English
