The Africana Studies Department at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Human Rights, Critical Carceral Studies, and Education at the beginning of Fall 2025.The candidate selected for this position is expected to:Work with faculty to develop and coordinate a prison/jail education program offered within SUNY Stony Brook and in the Long Island region.Coordinate curriculum and create an interdisciplinary minor within Africana Studies designed to train students in issues surrounding abolition, reform, and the prison-industrial complex.Develop experiential learning options for students.Teach in correctional facilities through Stony Brook’s developing prison education project.The position will remain open until filled, with priority consideration for applications submitted by January 15th.
